We had this thread a decade ago, and I suppose 254 has made this decade’s thread pretty short with four Einstein wins (and getting agonizingly close to a fifth), six Einstein appearances, a Festival of Champions win, 20 regional wins, and a WFFA in case 31 banners wasn’t enough.
Who else should be on this decade’s Mount Rushmore?
1678 - Fun fact, in 2010, Citrus Circuits had zero blue banners to their name. Then they won their first regional in 2011 and never looked back. The Einstein Streak started in 2013 and is still active, as both the longest active and longest ever Einstein streaks at 7 years strong.
2056 - They were only 3 seasons old in 2009 so it was too early to really know how great they were, but a LOT of regional/district wins (too lazy to count right now), 3 DCMP wins, 6 Einstein appearances, and one World Finalist later…yeah. They belong on the list.
Answering outside of the obvious answers, I’d say Team Supplier. Team IFI, Team WCP, Team AM, Team REV, and all the rest deserve to be remembered for changing the game (quite literally) through the 2010’s with their products.
Well, according to @Caleb_Sykes there’s a good statistical argument to be made for 1114. The data in his blog post doesn’t extend to 2019, and might show that 254 or 2056 owns the 2010-2019 block.
FIRST is a lot bigger than it was 10 years ago, so this is a much harder question.
I’m putting money on 1114 or 2056, not only have they racked up crazy banner counts, but they ahem motivate the rest of Ontario to keep up. Consistently raising the bar while building worthy competition is what FIRST is about, and these teams excel at that.
2019 would give 2056 a big boost and 254 a small boost relative to 1114. I could crunch the numbers again, but it’s going to end up 2056>254>1114 for 2010-2019. I’d buy arguments for any of those 3 as the best team of the decade. I think you’d be hard-pressed to pick a team that’s not one of those 3.
2056 had no shortage of greatness, with an astounding 40 blue banners over the decade (yeah, I still have a The Streak shirt). And 1114’s 32 banners match the Poofs for the decade.
But the stat that I just can’t ignore: All three made it to Championship each year of the decade, but only one of them was making confetti angels 40% of the time.
Question: Is team of the decade only taking into account robot performance, or Chairman’s/Community and global impact? Because if so i think that helps 987 and 1114 stand out, and 1678 with their large push, especially in the past 3 years.
When I think of FRC the first team that comes to mind is always 254, but after them it’s hard to deny 2056’s unbelievable run. 40 banners in 10 years is mind boggling. An honorable mention after that is 1678. A team that went from unknown to one of the best in the world in a short 10 years.
Most improved Teams of the Decade:
