Team Party

So is there going to be team parties this year?!

More or less parties than “Team Socials.” I believe FIRST’s website highlights more details.

Yeah, they don’t want anybody hurting themselves this year.

i think that we are going to stay for the party just to see what fine femails are in the comp.

Thank you, so much, for enlightening me as to what your goals will be, at whatever team social you attend.

You misspelled “females,” too.

I’m going to be socializing at whatever Team Socials I attend. Might be one of the only chances I’ll get to talk to some of my friends in real life.

yeah they are team socials now, they say because of funding but we know wh. it kinda sucks and events are to be streamlined, but we will see

Just recieved an administrative update from one of the adults on our team, highlighting the team socials and general information on the UTC New England Regional:

Team Social

The Team Social will be held in the event area after the awards ceremony on Friday. (Not all Regionals will be having a Team Social.)

Site Restrictions

Please read the following restrictions and adhere to them in order to promote an orderly, safe, pleasant, and exciting competition. As a group, we all should honor agreements with the venue and help promote the spirit of good partnership.

Please:

Do not bring food on the site. If you bring food, do not bring it onto the property.
Do not use noisy devices, such as whistles or air horns.
Do not save seats. It is not fair to other teams or to the public guests we hope to interest as team sponsors or volunteers.
Do not ship robots directly to the site. All shipments go through the Drayage Company.
Do not arrange for Internet access on the site or bring free phone lines for same.
Do not sell any products. This includes food, hats, shirts, or any promotional products.
Do not give out any free products, such as candy, water, soft drinks, or fruit. You may trade team pins, however.
Do not use helium tanks.
Do not bring live bands to play in the audience. This dilutes the presentation on the playing field and is too loud and confusing for the audience.
Do not play loud music in the Pit because it interferes with important announcements. If a team receives more than a warning or two, the power to the team’s Pit Station will be shut off and/or the music confiscated.

After very little searching and I mean very little, I found the list…

Now I don’t know the difference between a team party and a team social, but here is the list.

Events with a team social:
NASA Langley / VCU - Richmond, VA
Arizona - Phoenix, AZ
UTC New England - Hartford, CT
Central Florida - Orlando, FL
SBPLI - Long Island, NY
*Philadelphia - Philadelphia, PA
Silicon Valley - San Jose, CA
J&J Mid Atlantic - Piscataway, NJ

Events with a team party
BAE Systems Granite State - Manchester, NH
*Buckeye - Cleveland, OH
St. Louis - St. Charles, MO
Chesapeake - Annapolis, MD
Pittsburgh - Pittsburgh, PA
Great Lakes - Ypsilanti, MI
Canadian - Mississauga, ON
Peachtree - Duluth, GA

Events w/o team social or party
Sacramento - Sacramento, CA
New York City - New York, NY
Midwest - Eavanston - IL
Lonestar - Houston, TX
Pacific North West - Seattle, WA
Southern California - Los Angeles, CA
West Michigan - Grand Rapids, MI

*Philadelphia team social at Franklin Institute on Friday and Drexel Campus tour party on Sat.

*Buckeye team party at Rock 'n Roll Hall of Fame

It looks like first tried to keep it as even as possible when it came to cuts. The streamlined events for the most part are near other events with either parties or socials or have a low number of teams attending.

My team is attending, West Michigan - Grand Rapids, MI…Which with out any party I know will be a blast we love going there. It will just be sad that there will be no social Event after our hard hours of Comp. But I’m pleased to see that, Pittsburgh - Pittsburgh, PA…is on the list for a team party! For a new Reginal we plan on rocking the house!!! We love comp so much that we decided not to be part of the Buckey one, even though it is the closest…becuase then we can visit and cheer teams on as guests! I can’t wait for that one!
I know with the creative and uplifting minds of others, that if we can build a robot in 6 weeks we can all go to these socials and still haev a blast! I will have to admit I was mad when I heard no more dance parties becuase I look forward to them.
With this being the third year as a memeber it will be fun to do something different! SO I hope people don’t get angry with the changes but enjoy the new ways they are doing things!!
~Ashes~

I’ll have to bring Destinies Way on Friday so I won’t get board. Or I could just bring my laptop.

Oh yeah, we are going to VCU.

i believe the parties will have music, the socials will not.

someone correct me if i’m wrong. (hah! like that ever happens)

=-]

I have a feeling that there is no real difference between a team “party” and a team “social,” it may just be that some of the local committees responsible for each event are using the new terminology, and some are using the older terminology.

There may be slight differences, e.g. food, music (if any music at all), atmosphere, etc. since the announced financial situations FIRST mentioned in relation to certain regionals. My guess is the “parties” are the complete deal, where sponsors are willing to put forth a little more, whereas “socials” are the more streamlined events, parhaps lacking a few things.
