Team Resources

I was just wondering if any teams out there have any forms that they use to get information about the parents and students on their team to get a better idea of the resources that they have avalable to them. If you could help us out it we would thank you greatly. We just finished our rockie build, and know have a better idea of what we need to do to make ourselves a better team.

To get a feel for what are freshman can do and what they are like we have a shop openhouse at the begining of each year. We set up our robots and make some displays and we invite everyone interested in joining the team and their parents. It helps the freshman and their famlies get a better idea about what the team is like and it helps us to find out what the freshmen are like. We show movies from competitions, let them drive the robots, and do tool demos with our mill and lathe. It really helps to reel in the freshman and we usually pick up a few adults that help out in the process. I would recomend an open house type event for any team that wants to recruit more mentors.

Thanks thats great, but what i was looking for was something kindof like a form that the members and their parrents can fill out, with all of the useful skills. I know they use them a lot in boy scouts cause thats where the idea came from, but knowing how to pictch a tent does not help all that much when you really need people who can teach you to weld.

when i started autoshop this year my teacher handed out a survey on the first day of school to find out what kind of mechanical experience everyone had. He asked questions like if we had any tools at home, what kind of mechanical type things we have done in the past, how mechanically apt we consider ourselves, what our hobbies are and what our parents do for a living. Maybe you could try something like that.
