Team Social Media

I was interested in how other teams get a larger following on their social media pages. For example, I’ve found that for the most part teams are active on Instagram, but Facebook, doesn’t tend to do as well. For the most part, we have a few active parents on the page. I was just wondering what you all do to gain more attention to your team social media, especially Facebook. Thanks

By the way:

Feel free to link your team social media and I’ll check it out!

I’ve found that the largest surges in gaining followers happen at competitions, where people see your team, maybe want to learn more, and decide to start following you to keep up with what you’re doing. Half of the time I don’t know a good portion of the teams at an event, so I try to look them up.

If you’re also promoting your social media whenever you do an event (through business cards, flyers, or on some sort of paraphernalia) people will look your team up as well. It all comes down to how you promote yourself, because it’s somewhat difficult to just stumble upon a team (or at least, specifically yours) on Facebook or Instagram.

Our team gives presentations about this. Our students build the following like this:

Twitter & Instagram: Following other people, usually associated with FRC, our school, or our local community. “Followbacks” feel dirty but they really work.

Facebook: Any time someone likes a post, you can “invite” them to like the page as well. This works pretty well. Facebook will be the hardest to grow, we usually get about 100 new page likes a year whereas we usually get multiple hundreds on Twitter and Instagram. Encourage team parents & students to like the page, get your school to share your posts, etc.

We go more in depth on our presentations, but that’s the quick and easy version.
