Edit: It appears to clean up a few things in terms of wording, and it now requires robots to not be directly contacting the platform for a climb
I would not have thought of that Table 4-1 update to nix all the weird upside down/sideways “climbing” ideas. That’s pretty brilliant.
Are platforms still allowed after this update?
Climbing a ramp bot still appears to be a valid way to get climbing points.
Jacking your own robot up 12" by pushing off of the platform or tipping your robot over is not a valid way to get climbing points.
If I’m understanding you correctly that you’re asking if a climb could be achieved by being on top of another robot that is itself sitting on the platform (as would be the case with a rampbot), then I would think so. The robot on top is not directly contacting the field’s platform.
Also, and this is not directed at KaranY, I’d like to point out this gem: “It surprises us that we feel the need to say this, please don’t put the POWER CUBE cover on anyone’s head and zip it closed; also, don’t eat it.”
So there is -not- a limit on CIMs then…
Boost power ups bonuses earned by an alliance can no longer be stolen by the other alliance if they were to tip the scale in their favor.
Thank for the clarification! I was just confused where it says “not in direct contact with their platform”.
My understanding is that new wording means only actually earned points (1 second after tipping ) are doubled .
If opponents tip the scale in their favour you don’t get any points.
10 CIM DRIVE!
The previous wording of the rule suggested that if the opposing alliance activated a level 2 or 3 BOOST, and during that period you took ownership of the SCALE, you would get double points during the opposing alliance’s boost period.
The new wording of the rule explicitly adds “the ALLIANCE”, which I would read as stealing the opposing alliance’s boost no longer being possible.
This will likely be addressed in the Q&A.
What is there to address? It’s been made clear that there’s no limit in this update.
A while back I started designing a 10 CIM gearbox in Solidworks. Maybe it’s about time I finished it.
I don’t see why this would be addressed in Q&A now. The rule clearly states “any quantity”, and the contradictory section of the blue box was removed. There’s absolutely nothing in the manual that mentions the number of any motor now.
There may not be a rule limit, but there are only so many physical slots in the PDP…
It surprises us that we feel the need to say this, please don’t put the POWER CUBE cover on anyone’s head and zip it closed; also, don’t eat it.
What happened for this to have to be said :yikes:
…Therefore, that defines your limit. That and the brownout limitations of running that many motors. Hence the link to “roboRIO Brownout and Understanding Current Draw”.
Seems pretty clear that ramp bots will be allowed, I feel like the update would have included a note about no contact with the PLATFORM transitively otherwise.
The 1 second requirement on OWNERSHIP is a good addition, takes care of the weird edge case of a team actuating a SWITCH or SCALE faster than the 1 pt/sec accumulation to score extra points.
With the rewording of the BOOST power up, does the 1 point for initially gaining OWNERSHIP now get doubled if it occurs during the BOOST period? This also made me think, does an alliance get the extra point for gaining OWNERSHIP of the SCALE by using the FORCE power up (and the opposing alliance potentially gets the same bonus when the FORCE period ends and OWNERSHIP revert back)? Small edge cases but a few points could decide rankings or a match.
I felt a great disturbance in the Force, as if a thousand breakers cried out in terror and were suddenly silenced.
And then clicked and screamed again and then were silent and… it was quite cruel, really.
