Team Update #8

Update #8 is up and seems to be the shortest one yet:

http://www2.usfirst.org/2003comp/tmup8.pdf

and there’s not even anything real special in it either…they just had it because they said they’ll have one on tuesdays, bah!

So can we order and use 4 pnuematics? I’m still confused.

You can use 4 legal cylinders on your robot and it’s assemblies

Should surfice…

… You got one cylinder in the kit. You are allowed to order three more from the pneumatics manual. The one you got in the kit, plus the three you can order from the pneumatics manual are the four (and only) cylinders you are allowed to use.

Try again:

“For those of you that we confused about what cylinders and the total number of cylinders you
can use in Team Update #7, you can use 4 legal cylinders total on your robot and its
assemblies. We did not mean to infer that you had to use the 1 cylinder that was included in your kit of parts .”

You are guarenteed to have three free cylinders. But nothing is stopping you from getting another legal one, even though you may have to pay for it.

This is incorrect.

Team Update 7 reads,

"You can ONLY use the 1 cylinder from the kit of parts plus the 3 free cylinders = 4 total on your robot and its assemblies
.

Previously, FIRST’s wording made some people believe that the supplied cylinder had to be used on the robot (i.e., in the same manner that the light is required.)

That is not true. If you wish to use the supplied cylinder, you may. Otherwise, you may order up to three additional cylinders at no cost, an you may use up to three custom cylinders on your robot. No more, no less.

It does not read, “You may use the 3 free cylinders plus whatever you pay for up to 4.”

Sorry.

Try again, once again… or something.

I interpreted this as just saying that there was no need to use the kit provided cylinder. Say you were going to have three cylinders on your robot… that quote means that none of those three cylinders has to be the kit provided one. But if you were going to build a robot which requires 4 cylinders, you would have to use the kit provided 1.5" bore 8" stroke (or whatever it is) plus three custom ordered cylinders.
