Team Website Questions ...

What’s the regulations for putting photos on the page? What about last names? Do I have to obtain approval? I heard somewhere that since I’m doing the website, and I’m not 18, I can just post them. But since this is a team website, do I need to seek permission? Thanks.

It’s your website, do as you wish. YOu dont need any permissions from FIRST as long as you’re not using anything from their site. As far as pictures go, you can use them as long as those present in the pictures dont object. I am not very aware of laws as far as posting pictures on websites goes.

If this question concerns posting pictures of team members, then you may need to get permission from parents. I know with our website, since we are technically a school activity, we have to have parental consent to post pictures on our website of team members. We have an internet permission form that we require each member to have signed and returned before we post any of their pictures online. If you are affiliated with your school and/or are running the site off school’s hosting provider, make sure you check with the appropriate individuals at your school regarding their policies.
Concerning posting pictures from events, I am pretty sure that no further permission is needed because FIRST already requires members to sign consent forms for the taking of and use of pictures from events/competitions. I think this would cover your use of pictures as well.
Hope this helps.

On our website we are not allowed to post pictures or names of ANY student on the team or in the school we’re working at. It is a rule set by our district school board and is almost impossible to change. It is understandably a rule set in place for the safety of the students. However we can put in pictures of teachers or mentors and obviously the robot.
You could try the permission form thing mentioned above by [jessjank.]
jessjank. I also suggest you find out from your school principal if you can post pictures of students.

Goodluck with your website!

It’s easy to integrate a photo disclaimer into your team application. That way everyone is made aware of the team / school policy upfront.
When we identify students on the web site, it is by first name and last name initial only. Our team email addresses use that format only.
