Teams and community Makerspace

The community I live in is trying to get a makerspace started. I joined the group that is doing feasibility studies and identifying community partners.
I would like to incorporate an area for a practice field into this makerspace that local teams can use.
I’m looking for ideas and suggestions from those communities who already have a makerspace to help get this off the ground.
I am also looking to hear from teams who are affiliated with their local makerspace and discuss how an FRC team can be a contributing member.

We’re in the process of building/remodeling a space in one of our local high schools and turning the whole tech department into a fablab/maker space.

Feel free to ask any questions.

Practice field space is physically a lot of space to devote to a 4-month inseason competition. Ours is “reconfigurable” into other uses, out of season.
Perhaps space is cheaper where you are, but I wouldn’t expect the practice field to stay a practice field year-round.

My question is kinda geared towards community Makerspace. Is your space going to be open to the public? We are fortunate enough to have some pretty good equipment at our school that our teams have access to. I would be interested in seeing some pictures of the remodel!

Yes our space will be open to the public, once it’s safe for stuff like that again.

Will there be a fee for the public to use the space?
Who’s in charge of maintaining all the equipment and ordering consumables? What about insurance liabilities?

We have a partnership between the school district and the team. Wave is a community team. Wave is the driving entitiy of the space. We are looking to hire a coordinator for the space, who would be in charge of the space and scheduling. We don’t have all the details hashed out yet for fees and all that
