Our team wants to build a drivers station for next season. We want to have a laptop and an external monitor in the set up. Are there any teams that would like to share their experiences, CAD, and lessons learned? Any help is appreciated in advance!
I know Yeti 3506 has a cool driver station maybe @EHutson has a picture or has the contact for more info.
There are already many existing threads discussing driver station ideas.
Do an advanced search for “Driver Station” in title only. You will need to sort through topics discussing Driver Station software/ dashboard versus the Physical driver station, but it is not hard.
You could also search for “button board” and “joystick board” for more info.
EDIT: also “operator console” is the official description of the assemblage of laptop & various controllers. You will find many good examples with that search term.
Here’s a few, but this is not a full list of every thread on this topic.
We do, we made it out of sheet metal with a laptop and a second display, wide enough for 2 people to use it side by side. The primary driver has 2 joysticks with a button on top and the secondary driver has the second display and 8 arcade buttons. I’ll grab a photo tomorrow, I am not sure if we have cad for it or not, It was made before I joined the team
Remember that the “Operator Console” is subject to certain robot construction rules (R901–906) that will be checked during inspection. The two rules that people seem to forget most often are the maximum depth of 14" (R904B) and the prohibition on wireless communication (R905).
