Teams missing on the Nats list...

Does anyone notice that some teams they know are not on the list of registered for National? Well, I am not sure they are missing because of the new qualification process, or some other reason… I am just depressed since I won’t be meeting them in National this year…

Oh well, I hope there will be more effort in broadcasting regional competitions…

21! ComBBAT
25!! Raider Robotix
67!!! Heroes of Tomorrow
73!! Tigerbolt
85!!
108!!! SigmaC@T
131!! C.H.A.O.S.
157! Aztechs
177!!! Bobcats
237! Sie-H20-Bots
383!! Brazilian Machine
419!!! Rambots

I will really miss them!!! :frowning: :frowning: :frowning:

Is 16 Baxter Bomb Squad going to participate in this competition again…?

Teams 21, 85, 108, and 177 have all pre-qualified, so it doesn’t matter if they haven’t registered yet.

The rest are all odd numbered teams that didn’t do well enough last year, but still have the chance of qualifying

I haven’t heard anything about 16 recently, but they are a former chairman’s award winner, so they don’t have to worry about registering early.

I haven’t seen the Techno Ticks (236) registered for any competition so far. Does anyone know if they’re going to participate in 2002? I had a great time talking to the people on their team at Nats last year.

CHAOS has not qualified for the Nationals yet. But we will do everything in our power to get down there, and compete WELL as we have done in the past. Don’t count anyone out just yet. Although the odds are against us. We fight to till there is no hope.

GOOD LUCK TO ALL THE TEAMS IN OUR SITUATION!!!!!!

We aren’t out yet, we can still win at the regionals…

FIRST said it was all teams that attended the first FRIST competion and I thought that CHAOS 131 had attend that competion so would that make them elegable for Nationals in the 2002 season??

Ah, but they took a year off…so for some reason, they dont count :frowning:

Though, personally, FIRST should be doing all it can to help its Manch-Vegas teams…it was sad enough to see 131 as the only Manchester team at Nationals in 2001…but now 501 is the only one registered for this year’s Nationals.

As for 237…I really shouldn’t be speaking on behalf (because Im 2.5 hours away), but from what I hear, they are signed up for UTC, and are planning on visiting another regional. My personal preference for regional for them, though, may not pan out because the school board is clamping down on student travel, just like I have heard about other CT teams.

If anyone cares, lol…I’ll be going to Nationals, syllabus permitting…no idea how yet, though…I’ll work something out. Plus, for all of you going to New Haven for UTC, keep an eye out for a couple carloads of Babson students. My management professor is an MIT engineering grad ('49…he was showing off the class ring to me last class)…so I might be able to cajole him into a class trip

PS - My prof, though quite knowledgeable of MIT (its all he talks about besides accounting) knows noone named “Woodie” besides the guy that works at the coffee bar up here. Ah, but that soon will change, too

Hey Ken- as TJ Rage said above, we are out for the moment but not giving up. My guys have been working all year to prep for Fla. and we have a bankroll forming for the trip. Unlike many teams, our corporate support has GROWN- dramatically- for what good it does now. We were even setting up with an airline to charter a plane with other teams so we wouldn’t have to worry about terrorists. The “decision” really torpedoed us and it hurt bad. I wrote a letter to the powers that be and told them as much too!
Anyway, we haven’t given up despite the setback and have plans for a really hot bot, new Hawaiian styles and a second generation Mr. Volcano. We may be hitchhiking to get there but if we qualify it won’t stop us.
We have had miracles happen before- who knows. Just in case, you had better drop by Rutgers if you want to insure seeing us- that may be our only shot!

WC

All I have to say is team 25 was knocked down but no knocked out we have many chances to get to florida any “unqualified” team has a chance but it will take hard work and determination and I have see all these traits in the other students in my team

Hi everyone! As a four year veteran of team 131 CHAOS out of Manchester NH, I am puzzled by the regulations to qualify for this year’s national competition. Below i have copied exactly how the rules for qualifying are stated on the FIRST site:

  1. Teams automatically qualify to register for the current year in
    the following ways:
    a. All former Chairman’s Award winners (1992-2001)
    b. Prior two years Chairman’s Award finalists (2000 & 2001)
    c. Prior year National Championship winners (2001)
    d. Teams that participated in the original competition (1992)

I stopped on purpose at the subtopic d because that is where my question lies. As part of CHAOS, again out of Manchester (home of FIRST), i have tried to carry on the traditions started at the very first Competiton back in 1992. That competition included not CHAOS but our school with a different sponsor. We did compete in that first FIRST competition and that is the basis for my question. Does this regulation as it is written mean that we have to have held that same sponsor throughout the 11 years or does it simply state that teams that were there can go this season? Can anybody clarify this rule to me? If someone does have an answer to that question then exactly how many teams are still around from that original comp? If anyone can help a friend in need of answers…please post a reply soon.

Hopefully see you all at the competitions!!!

I can confirm that 108 is pre-qualified based on last year as I went to every competition that we competed at and pretty much ran things from the school side. (Chicago has the greatest pizza in the world!) I don’t know why they’re currently missing from the list, but I would assume it has something to do with Motorola bureacracy and funding. I can pretty much guarantee that they’ll be there. We’re a Florida team and went to Chicago every year. Getting people to Orlando wasn’t a problem for us. I know that I’ll be their as a volunteer and I’m sure that those 108 jerseys will be all over the place in force causing trouble yet again.

Don’t hold me to this but I think team 383 may have a really good shot at getting qualified for nationals. Last year they won VCU regionals and possibly got a point or two from other things (I’m not eraly sure of the latter part of that comment.) In any case, don’t count them out just yet, unless they aren’t planning on visiting us this year.
As for the Rambots not being there, :(, it won’t be the same without the ninnies. I hope some of them can find a way down by volunteering or something.
