The Team of the Decade (2010-2019) post sparks some interesting conversation.

On a similar note looking back over the past decade, What teams do you miss that retired from FRC in the past decade?

I was a member of 134 from 2001 to 2012 when the team retired after 15 seasons in FRC. I was bummed I didn’t get a chance to go back after graduating in 2012 to mentor.

3 Regional Champions (2000 - Philadelphia, 2003 - Chesapeake, 2008 - Granite State Regional)
2 Finalists (2009, 2010)
Numerous semi-final finishes
2009 Wood Flowers Award for Dave Kelly in Chesapeake
Perennial attendant at the Granite State Regional

Also, A shout out to 40 who called it quits in 2011. We worked closely with that team year after year and that was a great group to be friends with.

They left FRC after 2010, but team 2753, Team Overdrive deserves a mention. It’s not every day that one of the primary scoring teams on an Einstein alliance is a rookie.

The purveyor of mecanums team 357 Royal Assault. Gone but not forgotten. They folded after 2015, thanks Recycle Rush.

Hate to rain on the meme parade, but I do feel the need to clarify that Recycle Rush was not tied to 357’s decision to stop competing in FRC. Also, competitive robotics does live on at Upper Darby with VRC 357.

Correct, only the teams in the retired layer (again this is hidden by default) are retired.

We lost one of our local teams here in the Triangle in 2018, Tar Heel Robotics 3331. They were based out of UNC Chapel Hill and seem to have lost their mentors. Most of the students who would have been part of the team came from Carrboro HS (since our other two schools, my own CHHS and East Chapel Hill HS, both have teams of their own) and are now part of Carrborobotics 7763. They did pretty well for a rookie team last year, making it to the NCDCMP.

FRC 2493 Robokong from Riverside CA called it quits after we lost our build space this year. But never fear, we merged with FRC 6960 and are looking better than ever. I call it the Reeses Peanut Butter Cup team, they had the chocolate, we brought the peanut butter.

Yeah I know, I was joking. I only mentored them for 4 years :roll_eyes:

357 folded for a number of reasons, but the mentors and students have all gone on to do awesome stuff, some still involved with competitive robotics. 16 years ain’t a bad run for an FRC team and nothing lasts forever.
