A great opportunity has opened up for a qualified educator! Lyme-Old Lyme High School is looking for a new principal. Our school is located in coatsal Old Lyme, Connecticut and has 460 students. We are about to undergo a 3-year renovation of the high school, including the tech ed spaces. The local school board has been very supportive of the TechnoTicks, especially the current Treasurer, who is the mother of 2 Tick grads, now engineering students at WPI and UConn.
In short, we are looking for an innovative educator who enjoys a challenging environment; in other words, someone who has FIRST experience!
When the posting goes on-line, I will return with the url. In the meanwhile, explore the school’s website at www.region18.org.
You are so lucky your school board is supportive… Our District wants to shut us down for a different program… Alas, They in no way fund our program so there isn’t much they can do
I wish you good luck with your new principal search though!
If funding is the issue, FIRST has many grants that your team could apply for. On top of that, you might want to try and get community sponsors.
But really sorry to hear the news.
Our County school board has been EXTREMELY supportive of the FIRST programs in the county. I think we have roughly 3-4 teams in our county alone, but our team relies heavily on our corporate sponsors.
I believe Wiifi was saying since the school does not provide funding for the Blitz Team, they are free to continue existing. Personally if I were a principal I would be proud of a robotics competition win, very proud. Isn’t that what school’s about?
Anyhow, I actually know someone roughly within the area who might like this job. I’ll pass it on.
The school district wants to take our funding from our corporate sponsor and start a different program with it. Luckily it is not their money to spend it the robotics teams’.
And our principal is actually highly supportive of our team, he just doesn’t have a say on if the district attempts to take our money. Also we have the entire city council on our side!
Wow…I’m sorry to the district board but that is just about the rudest thing I’ve heard. I mean you guys got that money, not the districts…but it seems that you guys have it under control. ::safety::
Education is very important to me and it is something I would like to be involved in closely as I gain experience in the world. If I had the qualifications and I weren’t still 18, I would definitely be interested in the job. However, I don’t think I’d be the strongest candidate quite yet. Best of luck in finding your new principal!
Your interest is exactly what FIRST is helping accomplish, by encouraging students to go into education where their impact will have a multiplier effect. We’ll keep you on the long list for when you’re ready!
