Tempest 'N Tampa 2008

Several teams have asked for additional information on this year’s Tempest ‘N Tampa so I thought I would start a thread to make sure I get all the questions answered.

Once again, the TNT Robotics Competition will be held in the **SUN DOME **arena on the University of South Florida campus in Tampa. Thanks to the outstanding efforts of mentors and students from several FIRST teams we are able to expand the offerings at TNT to include a multitude of robotics competitions and workshops.

The FRC **Overdrive **competition will be a 2-day event starting Friday, Oct 24th with set-up and practice matches throughout the evening; a Team Lock-In at the Sun Dome on Friday night for any FRC team that wishes to save money on lodging costs; and the qualifier and elimination matches on Saturday, Oct 25th.

For FTC we will be hosting the **Traveling Roadshow **which includes workshops and demonstrations of the new FTC control platform. We will also have a field available so that attending FTC teams can practice and work on their designs.

Our FLL offerings are two-fold. First, there will be an **official FLL Qualifier held on Saturday. Registration for the qualifier should be done through the main FLL webpage. Secondly, we will be hosting a series of hands-on workshops **for Lego League teams. For more information, please see the FLL event page for TNT here, http://www.roboticsboosters.com/tnt/schedulefll.html.

We are also pleased to offer a **VEX competition **demonstration and workshop on that Saturday. We will have a full field set up for teams that have begun construction on their Vex robots.

The cost for TNT is $300 for FRC teams, $25 for FLL teams entered in the Qualifier, free for everyone else.

Please visit our event website for more information and the registration form, http://www.roboticsboosters.com/tnt/. If you have any additional questions you can post them here or contact me at the information below.

Team 254 is excited to make the trip to Tampa for the event.

Looks like another fantastic weekend. Getting bigger every year:D

I am SOOOOOOOO excited for this event!! I cannot wait.

Team 1345 has registered for the event and finalizing all the plans for this trip. We are very excited to take another trip to Tampa for a crazy competition. I can’t wait to work with the crew again.

TNT last year was one of the funnest things I have ever done. This year is looking like it’ll be even better. The Pink Team is extremely excited for this event.

Last year at TNT we wanted to have a LAN party for the students to give many of them something to do during the lock-in. You guys all came through and brought your systems, controllers, games and monitors and it seemed to go pretty well.

This year we are looking to do the same, but bigger and I wanted to gauge the response and participation from you all. If you are interested in a LAN party at the lock-in this year, please respond with the following information:

  • Are you interested? (I know, I know, I asked to only respond if you were)
  • What game(s) do you want to play?
  • Are you willing to bring your own system?
  • Are you willing to bring your own monitor?

Right now the plans have been oriented toward the Xbox 360, but there’s no reason players can’t bring along their PS3s and do the same.

Team 1251 will be joining the action in Tampa can not wait. See everyone at the sun dome!!! :]

TNT is gonna be fun stuff can’t wait to see what this years competition holds in store. Especially the lock-in that was fun last year.

Here’s a list of the 22 teams that are currently registered for TNT.

There are a few more that are on the fence that I’m hoping we can convince to join us. If you don’t see your team on this list and you think it should be there, send me an email.

Just got my plane ticket today, see everyone there!! Dan and Matt bring your UCF stuff so I tease you all properly, in person.

I’ll be there =]

If anyone from the Kissimmee / Orlando area needs a ride I’ll be driving down with Libby K and an alumni from 1065 and I have 1 spot (2 if you don’t mind a full backseat) left just shoot me a PM and we’ll discuss it.

I didn’t get to go to TNT last year, I’m excited to go this year!

I like the idea of a LAN party, but what about laptops? If anyone has Empire Earth, Age of Mythology or Red Alert I would definitely challenge them to a match. (I love RTS games)

It’s less than two weeks until TNT. I am bouncing off the walls for what should be a fantastic weekend.

I’ve only been to one other Florida off-season but it’s put my expectations super-high for the quality of events. I’m ready to rock!

lol
who are you tellin’
tnt is gonna be awesome
i’m going to be helping with field reset (hopefuly :P)

Libby, hate to be a downer but TNT is between two and three weeks away.
