Hey… is anyone intrested in making a site for FSN??
All i’m loooking for are like 2-3 pages.
The index should say something about FSN / FIRST. Have the fsn logo & mabey some pics of a team scouting??
The second page would be for our sponsors. It would list them and have a small pic if they’ve provided one, along with a link to their site. You may also want to steal a paragraph from their site to describe them. Oh yeah… and also list what they’ve donated to FSN.
The third page could be just about anything. Mabey a little road-map / FSN goals??
I don’t even care if this is made in a WYSIWYG (dreamweaver, frontpage, …)
If intrested, pm/email/aim me.
Jack
ps: the only requirement that i’ll have for whoever will be doing this is that they will be able to do this w/o my help. ie: you can ftp a file to the server.
Hello,
I may be able to help, just let me know the basic information you would like on the temporary pages and I can have something made for you in the next week or so.
By the way, I currently can code HTML, CSS, XML, PHP, MySQL, JS. I can also design flash banners, sites, movies, introductions, etc.
Hey,
sorry, I meant that I am able to produce flash banners, introductions, videos, and site designs.
Also, what is so wrong with a flash site design? I( personally think that flash designs are much more eye pleasing than regualr html images.
Although, I see what you may be getting at, that a page designed in flash may not be fully accessable to those users who use 56K or lower. So I just wanted to throw this idea out there, how about we design both a broadband page/site(flash design) and a dialup page/site (for those still on 56K).
It’s not the bandwidth that’s the problem. I just don’t think it’s a good tool for FSN. FSN is an information site. Save the Flash for homestarrunner.com.

Maybe its that whenever there is Flash the creator always seems tempted to put in crappy animations and low bitrate movies so u have to wait through all of that ‘eye-pleasing’ trash just to find the info for what u want.
As Jon said FSN is an Informational Site
Hello,
You have very good points. I have spoken with Jack and it looks like we will begin with a simple html page and then divide the site into two sections, one for dialup users, and one for broadband. For those who do not like flash, you can pick dialup, however let me reasure the information will be shown upfront and the eye-pleasing factor will not interfere with trying to find important information.
And please dont forget, another good use of flash is StickDeath.com
I don’t really like that idea. The site should be simple, limited graphics, just pure information. It should be a repository for implementations of the network, how to’s, FAQs, links, and a discussion forum.
Personally, I think Flash may be a little excessive. Tastefully implemented, it can be okay, but I’ve seen many more bad Flash sites than I’ve seen good ones. If you use flash, keep it so it’s not garish.
When I talked to you earlier, I was in the middle of studying for my math exam and between the binomial theorem and the integral, maybe i did not explain exactly what I thought you could do.
The site you will be creating will actually be more permanent that I may have said. This site will be a “showey” site. It will have pretty pictures and “fluffy” text. It can be used to explain what FSN is about, and an overview of what is going on. This can be used as an intro to new FSN’ers or to show to possible sponsors. This site can really have whatever it wants. Fancy w/ bells & whissles is what we want here.
However, the data portion of the site will be generated via a php templateing system. (We may design our own, or hack a allreay made one) There really isn’t a practile way to use flash here, not to mention the slower speeds & greater server demands.
Sorry if anyone got confussed. School ends tommorrow & I’ll then have more time for FSN.
Hello,
No Problem, guess I was a little confused as to what kind of design you want. I finsihed exams about a week ago and finished school today, so plenty of time to do more web developement.
However, I am just left with a few questions.
The site design itself, should it be flash or high quality images?
If flash, the flash will basically just be used as a template for everything but the actual data which will be handled by some sort of php-program?
We either design a php-driven data program or hack/break apart a current one like post-Nuke?
So I quess what I am basically asking is, should a flash site design be used for stuff like photos, news, sponsors, contact info, and a html/php site design for the scouting/team data? Or as most people seem to want here, no flash.
Regards,
Mike
PS: Can you give a little more detailed description of what you would like. For example, site layout (flash or not), flash introduction move (yes or no), completely no or minimal flash, etc. All of your comments have been helpful so far, but so that I may design a move effetive site for FSN, please know what features in the design you want.
