Thank-you 67, 3098, & Cass Tech

After 11 years, the ThunderChickens were finally paired with the Hot Team!

67 - Thank-you for selecting us and for being such gratious alliance captians. You guys have a beautiful robot and can really drive the wheels off that thing. Your dirve team and strategy team were truly awesome to work with and I look forward to doing it again some time. Good luck in Lansing this coming weekend.

3098 - I can’t believe you guys are rookies. You executed the strategy to a T and your human player was right on cue with the empty cells. You had an awesome group to work with.

The Cass Tech district event was great. We had some issues early on Friday, but they got worked out and Saturday morning everything was right on the mark. Cass Tech high school is a beautiful venue for first events and had the best robot flow in and out that I have seen at an event in a long time. The steep bleachers set up a great atmosphere.

To our MC and announcer - Excellent job both of you! You have a bright future in the MC / announcing gig.

Thanks to all the FIRST in Michigan volunteers for making the first year district experiment work so well this year. I plan on writing a long post about my observations so far.

Isn’t that a great feeling!

Congrats 67, 217, and 3098.

Thanks to you all for even coming to our school
it was really fun to see you all again, we were on your team at least once and we had a great experience also we are glad you liked our school and hope to see you again this year, our next regional is in troy.

Cass Tech was amazing! It was great to get back into the competition mode, after watching webcasts of other teams playing for the last two weeks.

Cass Tech High School provided a perfect atmosphere for a FIRST event, with the stands reaching high all the way around the field. It made for an awesome sight during team introductions.

Thanks to all the volunteers who made this event run smoothly. The match cadence increased as we went along, easily completing all the matches within an acceptable time.

217 - Can’t thank you guys enough for accepting our offer to join the alliance. Its crazy to think that we have never been paired up in eliminations before. Lets hope this changes things for the better.

Playing with you was great. Your robot design is flawless, and works perfectly with your drivers and strategy. We would not have been able to do it without you.

Paul, as a first year coach it was an honor to discuss strategy and coach with you. You are one of the coaching legends that I watch for tips on game play and strategy.

3098 - You guys did great. Your defensive execution was perfect. I look forward to seeing your team at future Michigan events.

469, 1250, and 1941 - You guys definately made our alliance work hard for the win. You are all great teams and your defensive strategy in the Finals was really hard to avoid.

Kinda to throw this out there I have cruched some of the numbers and I believe I have an alomst actuate updated state standing for michigan teams.
Bold teams have two events in. THese are teams that competed at Cass Tech

  1. 123- 73 Points 67- 73 Points 217- 73 Points
  2. 247- 58 Points
  3. 1250- 55 Points
  4. 469- 50 Points
  5. 503- 43 Points
  6. 1701- 42 Points
  7. 326- 39 Points
  8. 453- 38 Points

Just noticed it almost went by the selector then the selectie =]

Thank you team 67 and 3098. You guys are awesome. It is hard to believe that 3098 was still available to the number one seeded alliance. HOT…I do not need to say anything about you guys that has not already been said. So I will sum it up in two words, SIMPLY MAGNIFICENT!

469, 1250 and 1941 here is what I have to say about you. For the last week or so I have had the pleasure of watching 469 in action during practice. The first time I had seen their bot in action I thought to myself “What is the big black skirt for?” and then it became apparent, the skirt is used to not only human load but to direct the balls into storage magazines below the turret. This, to me, was a very clever design. Coupled with the swiftness of their crab modules it is no wonder that they were awarded the innovation in controls award. Lets not forget those giant fans capable of re-inflating the Georgia Dome. 1250 and 1941 I do not know the ins and outs of your machines, from what I saw during match play I do not need to. Your robots performed excellent and for lack of a better term, scared the hell out of me. I unfortunately had to view Saturday via web cast (BTW great job Code Red.) but that did not make it any less of a nail biter.

Good luck to all and I am looking forward to seeing all of you at Athens or Atlanta.

My numbers are slightly different, I don’t know if yours were just based on the Cass event, but I thought I’d pop mine out there too.

Congrats HOT, once again, makin’ your alums proud!

Based on our numbers, here is what 217 and 67 should have:

67 - 11 wins * 2 + 1 tie *1 + Quality (5) = 28
217 - 10 wins * 2 + Driving Tech (5) + Spirit (2) = 27

67 & 217 - Winners (30) + #1 (16) =46

67 total = 74
217 total = 73

It looks like Beth’s numbers are correct for 67 & 217.

Yeah, dumb me forget the tie for 67 =]… Everyone makes mistakes, but the rest of the numbers look good, But i majorly screwed up on 123 and I’m lookingat the math I did. Two pages worth, actually. But netherless, good job teams, looks like theres gonna be some great competetion to come.

Your math was correct for 123

Traverse City –
9 wins 18 points
#3 Captain 14 points
Semi Finals 10 points

Total 42 points

Cass Tech –
7 wins 14 points
#5 pick 12 points
G.M Design 5 points

Total 31 points

2 Event Total – 73 points

Cass Tech was amazing. The ice cream was good :D, the school was well prepared and was well suited to host this competition. The volunteers did a great job and exponentially got better as the competition went on.

There was a lot of good competition and a great gracious professionalism from everybody. It was disappointing that we tied that match but what can you do, we were still undefeated  . There were some good cream of the crop teams to choose from for a first pick (217, 469, 326, 1701) but the robot chickens were as always a top of the line team and it would have been silly to let this opportunity for us to play together slip by. 3098 did great as our 3rd bot and surpassed our expectations as a rookie.

Other things I want to point out ^.^ … Team 469 the Las Gorillas had a great drive train and were a thing to be reckoned with on the regolith with fans powerful enough to inflate the Georgia Dome or put out a forest fire (I heard those analogies somewhere and liked them) Team 326 was a team to be reckoned with, they had good strategy and once they got their mechanical bugs fixed they could dump balls like crazy.

Sorry if I missed anybody, I look forward to Lansing!!! see you there

Beth, thanks for doing all the math. Like the post two above, the only thing I have caught thus far is 123’s score. It must’ve taken you a lot of time to do all the math!

For those of you who are wondering, if it was decided today, the 9 extra spots for Atlanta for teams who have not prepaid would go to 245, 2645, 904, 1250, 1918, 503, 1701, 326, and 453 with 1596, 818, 123, and 2771 close behind. This is assuming the chairman’s/EI/rookie-all star/overall winners at states have not yet prepaid, and looking back to last weekend, if 67 and 217 have the chance to be together again at EMU, the rest of Michigan will most likely have two more free spots in Atlanta as well as some amazing matches to watch in the eliminations.

Congratulations teams 217, 67, and 3098! You guys definitely deserved to win. Your playing throughout the entire competition was splendid, and it was an honor to play against you guys in the finals.

217, you guys were great. If anyone deserved a victory, it’s you. You were good in practice, and very good in competition. Congrats on a well earned victory.

67, your bot was fierce. You were, IMO, the biggest threat on the field all competition long. You were consistent, and deadly.

3098, never underestimate a rookie team. Great job on a well earned victory, and I hope there will be many many more in your team’s future.

I can’t wait to see 217 and 67 again at Athens. Good luck to 67 and 3098 at Lansing!
