In recent memory, I can’t remember game pieces named something as logical as they are this year: the cone is called a CONE and the cube is called a CUBE.
No cargo, no boulder, no regolith. No hatch panel, no fuel, no power cubes, no power cells.
On behalf of everyone trying to explain what the heck is going on in this game to a casual outside observer, thanks to GDC for making the game piece terminology straightforward this time around.
Now, if only I can remember that game pieces are scored on nodes, to form links, which are part of grids, which are located in the community.
(This isn’t a joke, I’m being genuinely serious here:) I’m pretty sure FIRST does this for ball game objects because of Game Announcing and making sure they don’t accidentally say something inappropriate for a high school competition.
I applaud the naming of the game pieces, but I still think “community” is one of the dumbest names for anything I’ve seen. Idk what else to call it, I just know I’ll have to learn how to say it with a straight face.
Problem is, “community” is also a big part of FIRST’s stated mission. Meaning finding the “COMMUNITY” game area in the rules pdf is a massive pain, since you get everything else too.
RIP, I have been calling the cube a “ball” ever since kickoff where we used last year’s B bot to intake it and spit it out, maybe it is still a shooting game after all…
