I would like to thank the Crew at PARC for letting me Ref. the event. It was truely an amazing experience. Thanks Erin and Aidan for entrusting me not to screw up too much ;). Anyone who has not Reffed before, all I can say is wow! Jump at the chance if anyone asks you to. It really has given me a new view about the other side of competing. Again, THanks a ton!
Greg-
I’m glad you had fun being a Ref, we enjoyed having you. It’s volunteers like yourself that make all competitions possible; on and off season. I was a volunteer field resetter @ Nats and loved it, I was then ‘appointed’ to be pretty much the head of field reset at PARC, and again, loved it. I was the only one experienced in resetting this years field, so eveyrone was kinda learning as they went along. being a volunteer at these comps is a very rewarding experience and I recommend that everyone should do so if they have the chance. :]
Also, I am looking to try and continuing reffing during the offseason. If you need a ref. for a comp around the area of The Northeast, let me know!
Ahh…
Carl, I wish I knew that you were the only one with previous field reset duties uder your belt from this year. I did field reset this year at NYC regional, and was anxious to do it at PARC, cause my team was not there and I was so - not bored I guess, (who can be bored at a FIRST event) but would have been more than happy to volunteer to do some field resetting at PARC.
It looked like you had more than enough people there to do that task, so I just hung out and talked with some fellow FIRSTers and watched the event.
Carl, if you need my help next year, let me know. I’ll see what I can do.
Of course, it didn’t help my cause that I got to PARC at about 10:30 after my 3 hour drive from CT. lol
It was a nice and straightforward drive though, and the views coming into PA at 1274 ft. elevation right before that big ol bridge on I-84 were awesome.
I want my team to go next year, since we drive 3 hours to NH for mini-comps as it is, the 3 hour drive to PA isn’t that much of a stretch.
Excuse my rambling here, but I had a great time at PARC and it definately was a great mini-comp.
