Thanks, FIRST Moms!

I wanted to wish all of the robomoms in here a happy Mother’s day.

My FRC experience simply wouldn’t have happened without the influence of my mom. I remember moving from Utah to New York at the beginning of my sophomore year, and her encouragement to participate in the high school robotics team. She’s continued to be nothing but supportive through all the ups and downs of high school, college, and starting a rookie team. She’s amazing. Even though I’m taller, I still find myself looking up to her.

I recognize that families can be a sensitive topic (I’m aware of several FIRSTers who come from less-than-ideal family situations), but if you’re up for it, I’d like to hear your stories about FIRST moms.

My mom encouraged me, as a homeschooler, to join the local team. I loved it so much that I convinced my sister and mom to get involved. My mom took role of “team Mom” and took care of all the meals and hotels. She also watched over in the stands to make sure everything was going well. She would bring food for all the kids who couldn’t afford the venue prices as well.

Along with my amazing mom, who picks me up from robotics, no matter how late it is, I also want to thank Mrs.Leicht. She’s an amazing person who contributes so much to the team. A big reason that the team runs so well is because of her. On top of that, she has an amazing attitude and is easy to talk to. But also, thank you all FIRST moms, for making the FIRST experience as great as it is!

My mom was the one to encourage me to join my high school’s team in the first place, and since then has been helping out the team every turn she can. She founded our team’s parent booster club (which is still in it’s infancy) and helps organize our yearly “banquet”. Recently she even encouraged me to become a Robot Inspector, and I love it! You can even find her running practice fields and doing field reset at some of the local regionals!
