A few Robowranglers are watching the Finals at MSC. For those that don’t know, there have now been TWO tie matches where all the tie-breakers were dead even.
We’re about to see our FIFTH match in the series.
This is obviously inconvenient from an event planning and management standpoint, but is AMAZING from a “sport and spectacle” standpoint.
Thank you to the GDC for not making the “7th level tie-breaker” a random coin-flip!
Let’s keep em playing all night, until someone comes out on top!
They could add in a possible 4-6 more tiebreak options.
Cargo/panels scored in sandstorm (if it’s tracked which I doubt)
Cargo scored in cargo ship
Cargo scored in rocket
Panels scored in cargo ship
Panels scored in rocket.
At the LA Regional this year, the finals went to 5 matches, with one of those due to a field fault. A field fault will have the results overwrite the previous match, leaving the total number of finals matches at LA to be 4. Overtime will have all the match results posted.
This is uncharted territory for FIRST, we contacted the before posting the results in case it calculated the winner wrong. But the final match was technically a replay of overtime.
If you did have tiebreaker 7-12 as
7. Most cargo scored in cargo ship.
8. Most panels scored in cargo ship.
9. Most cargo scored in rockets.
10. Most panels scored in rockets.
11. Most cargo scored in one rocket.
12. Most panels scored in one rocket.
If it was still a tie after 12 tiebreak criteria then we all deserve a replay.
Not quite.. Iowa 2017, semifinals 2 went to 6 matches because the two alliances were so evenly matched. It felt like the event that would never end! Granted, that wasn’t this year, but I doubt that part of the FMS has changed much since then.
