I don’t know about the rest of you guys but i know that when the whole years competition is over there is always one person in particular that I remember, not particularly from your team or another team, but one of the first volunteers or staff memebers. i think theres on person that sticks out in my mind that really put in alot of work that i would really like to thank, and that person is the pit anouncer. i don’t know his name but if somebody knows help me out. i think that he had a rouhg job anouncing every match at least ten times a peice anouncing the team names and on top of that anouncing any other important notices. so thank you very much.
hey reply tell me who you think was the most memorable.

Our most memorable person was Dan the Man. I remember at Great Lakes when he was giving us pointers about what was going wrong with our robot, and explaining what one of the problems may have been with the computer, etc. Then again at nationals he was there for support, he was there to witness our bot drop from 160 - 130lbs., and then when we told him it dropped to 116 at nationals, it was great. I think Dan the Mad had alot of interaction with many of the teams, and he is one of the most memorable people that our team ran into.

Hey everyone,
I don’t know if this is the same guy or not as the one Pat posted about…but our team’s personal favorite FIRST crew member was Dave the Man (I think his nametag said he was from InnovationFirst?). He answered some questions for us about problems with the robot controller at Great Lakes, and we kept noticing him after that. We saw him in Chicago and decided that although the traditional thing is to give Woodie something to wear or wave around before the match, Dave the Man should get a turn - so we gave him one of our grass skirts. Unfortunately, we only saw him once at Nationals, though, since we only had one match on the Einstein stage. But although we didn’t talk to him all that much, Dave the Man was the one FIRST crew member who stood out in our minds.

I’m assuming you’re talking about the pit announcer at the Nationals…His name is Dick Gurall. He is a great guy, did have a rough job, and did a great job at it. He works at PSNH here in New Hampshire, and volunteered to pit announce at the Nationals after he did such a great job at the Virginia regional!
I’m with you…he was outstanding!! And believe it or not, he actually left the Nationals with MOST of his voice still in tact!!! (thanks to all the cough drops team were dropping by for him!)
