It’s time to talk about the CD Web Hug for 2012 and to educate me.
I haven’t been able to attend the Championship Event for a couple of years so I’m making plans to hit all the hot spots while I’m there this year! The hot spots for me include the Hall Of Fame, Scholarship Row, and the CD Web Hug. They also include some of the amazing Conference presentations.
This thread has been created as a place to post info regarding the Web Hug. Typically, it has been on Thursday at 12:00 p.m. It is a brief time for members of CD to meet and greet and say hello.
Since I haven’t been to the Web Hug in St. Louis, would those who attended it last year - please fill me (and others) in on where it is located?
I’m very excited to be able to go to St. Louis this year and I hope to see you all at the ChiefDelphi Web Hug.
Last year the Web Hug was held outside of the Hall of Fame area, which was located at one end of the pits. With all the fields in the Dome and roomier pits, I’m not sure where it’ll be held this year. Brandon will probably make an announcement with the official details as the event gets closer (typically around a week before the Championship so that there’s enough time to enter for raffle tickets).
Hopefully I’ll make it to the web hug this year. The past couple of years my name has been called for the raffle, but I was unexpectedly busy somewhere else.
Can’t wait to see you (and Jane Doll?) in St. Louis!
Is the webhug usually during lunch or during the time when matches are being played? I don’t really know why, but I haven’t been able to make it to a webhug since 2008.
I don’t know the layout and haven’t attended the event in STL. If we could figure out a place, I think that would be great. It would be “unofficial” but heck fire, Billfred has had an “unofficial” caption contest for years.
Pretty much everything is inside the venue, right? No outside space?
Isn’t there a random outside space between the field and the pits that people can access. It’s smaller and surrounded by the building, but I could have sworn there was an open outside space when you walked between the pits and the fields.
Someone might want to clarify as to if they remember an open space in that arena.
There’s also the area outside the conference locations that could work since it’s a large hall.
I wonder who we would check with to confirm that it would be ok, once we figure out a spot… I’m thinking large group/fire marshalls kind of stuff. Since the giveaways are happening at 51’s pit - no one would be standing around waiting to have their name called… it could be a simple meet and greet. I wonder if we could work with 1511 and their Rookie Meet and Greet.
I know things are changing for their Rookie Meet and Greet and for the Robo Prom and for other activities, due to the shift in the competition scheduling. Maybe things are fluid enough right now, that we could figure it out.
These webhugs have been a lot of fun over the years, but I imagine they have also been quite a bit of work.
I’m guessing Brandon and Mike are both really busy this week in Anaheim.
I will definitely be stopping by Team 51’s pit, but will be keeping an eye on this thread.
You will also need a mike.
Question: If there are no giveaways and it is unofficial, why would we need a mike? Just to welcome everyone?
When I’ve gone, I haven’t really paid attention to the giveaway part, I’ve been busy saying hello. That means - I’m not good with understanding the purpose of the mike in the situation this year. Help me understand, please.
The mike was used in the past for the give aways. The structure of the webhug was usually to announce the prize winners. I got some great swag over the years. If the winner wasn’t present, they would go on to the next winner. Winners were announced, and would go up to get the swag and I would be thinking (so that is what they look like, or they are here!). I missed it last year because I was grabbed for something at the last minute. Some years it looked like over 100 people there.
It was always great to see people but they aren’t wearing their screen names. I guess you could just do a "hi, my name is "
And I’m guessing that Show Ready Events might be the place to start to ask the question.
Team 1511 is still working on tweaking the All Rookie Meet and Greet. Right now, Friday at close of matches is looking like our best option. We met in that space by the Hall of Fame teams last year and it was a lovely space. But we do not know yet where the HoF teams will be this year and what will become of our lovely space. So our location is TBD!
The small courtyard space outside ended up being the smokers paradise and the croswalk between two buildings and very travelled. It was great for staging a team photograph, but was easily crowded.
I know I’m not helping…
Are we allowed to contact Show Ready? I never even though of that as a possibility! Jane, let me know if you make contact!
I know we’re brainstorming in the thread so readers, please don’t confuse the brainstorming with actual information. I’ll let you know when I have some.
Brainstorming: Does anyone know if there is a Mentor’s Breakfast this year?
Cynette, thanks for the info regarding smokers paradise and walk-through traffic. I really want to minimize any clogging up/blocking traffic, etc. I’m also not going to worry about days - I’m going to see what we can make work and then go with that. I’ll wait to hear back from the e-mail that I sent and then go from there. (I didn’t contact Show Ready.)
Fingers crossed for a little bit of time to meet and greet.
Edit: No, Cynette. I’ve been private messaging with you and with Jenny. I told her what I had done. From you, I was asking about the process that you use for your gathering. I decided on my own to contact frcteams and see if they can provide any suggestions. (You know… adding one more e-mail to their long list of e-mails/questions this next week… )
Brainstorming: The Mentors Breakfast is listed in the A-Z Guide: Mentor Breakfast hosted by Autodesk: Autodesk, a long standing sponsor of FIRST, is offering a breakfast for FRC Mentors Saturday morning from 8:00 am to 9:00 am in the America’s Ballroom, on the second level of the America’s Center.
