The 2022 STEMley Cup Championship in Hamilton Ontario

Hi Teams. After a couple of years away, the Makeshift 4039 and Celt-X 5406 are happy to be hosting the STEMley Cup Championship again. The off season event will be held as two single-day events on Saturday October 29th and Sunday October 30 in Hamilton Ontario Canada. Space is limited and slots tend to fill quickly. 3739 can’t wait for this amazing event! I’ve been most years personally, and the team has loved it each year they’ve attended in the past.

Hoping to see some familiar faces this fall!!

Signups for the Saturday STEMley Cup event are now going to a waiting list, but we still have lots of spots open for Overtime Sunday. Sign up at https://stemleycup.ca/

Here’s the current team list for October’s STEMley Cup. As mentioned, Saturday is full, but there’s room on Sunday for any team that wants to join (or any Saturday team that wants to play both days).

We’re holding back a few spots for 2023 pre-rookie and re-starting teams. If you know of a team that would like to get a head start on next season, please have them get in touch! We will make loaner robots and coaches available as needed.

We just sent the following update to all registered team contacts. In the interest of reaching everyone who might want to pre-order food or swag, I’m reposting it here:

Hello teams. Happy Thanksgiving! Can you believe that we are only three weeks away from the STEMley Cup Championship and Overtime Sunday? In the meantime, here are six items which need your urgent attention:

1) Saturday Lunch Pre-Orders Due Friday October 21

The STEMley Cup Championship is offering pre-ordered Pizza and Subway lunches on Saturday to help make the day run smoothly.

Orders can be placed at https://forms.gle/pu99tz2Garfs28yY7. Pre-orders must be paid for (cash only) at pit admin during check in and picked up by your team representative in the cafeteria on the day of the event.

Sunday’s event will be holding a BBQ. Porchetta sandwiches and Veggie Burgers will be available for purchase (Cash Only) on the day of the event. No pre-orders will be available for Sunday.

Teams are also welcome to bring in outside food, or to purchase from nearby eateries (including Wendy’s, Tahini’s, or Fortinos).

2) STEMley Cup T-Shirt Pre-Orders Due Sunday October 16

New for 2022! A limited quantity of commemorative T-Shirts will be available for purchase at the STEMley Cup Championship / Overtime Sunday Concession store (cash only), and also by pre-order. You can find a draft of the design, created by our very own Victoria A. (Victoria A 🇨🇦 (@frcdoodles) • Instagram photos and videos) below. Pre-orders can be placed online at: STEMley Cup Shirts – Pre-Order – STEMley Cup Championship Please pass the link on to your team members!

3) Robot Trading Cards are back. Submit your Photos by October 16

Our students are planning to bring back the Robot Hockey Cards, for sale at STEMley and Overtime! See an example from 2018 at the link below. There are a few things each team could do that would help us prepare the cards: Please provide a photo of your robot, and some interesting facts, at the link below before Sunday October 16.

4) Reminder that the venue capacity limit is *20* people per team

We are excited to welcome more than 40 teams to St. Mary CSS on STEMley Cup Weekend. However, since the field will only have seating and standing room for less than 500 people, we insist that teams limit their attendance to 20 people or less each. Teams attending both Saturday and Sunday’s event are welcome to bring separate groups of 20 for each day. Some COVID precautions (masks, symptom screening) are also expected. Please see the document linked in 6 for the latest details.

5) Overtime Sunday Openings Still Available

The STEMley Cup Championship on Saturday is at capacity, but there are still two or three spots available for the Overtime Sunday event! Teams that are registered or waitlisted for Saturday are encouraged to register ASAP for Sunday at Registration – STEMley Cup Championship

6) Team Information Living Document

The STEMley Cup organizing committee is maintaining a “living” reference document to help teams before and during the event. We expect to add a venue map and playoff details soon. Check back here regularly for all the latest information: Team Information – STEMley Cup Championship

See you soon!

I assume the plan for playoffs is to try and implement the double elimination bracket if possible?

Tentatively yes. We have a meeting with Key Volunteers this week to determine if there are any roadblocks that would prevent us from implementing double elimination. Feel free to offer any strong opinions on the matter

Glad to hear it, it looked like a lot of fun at Chezy Champs and it would be great to try it during the offseason.

Out of curiosity, do y’all plan on recording the matches that will be played and upload them on the blue alliance after the event?

The plan is to task the AV crew with that job, but it often gets overlooked in the rush to shut down after the event closes. Thanks for the reminder - we’ll try!

I noticed this in the rule changes for the STEMley Air Freight “The ALLIANCE’s climb RP is not affected by the BONUS points” is this due to some FMS limitation or a balance / strategy decision?

A bit of both. If Air Freight affected the climb RP, every team with a High Bar climb would be able to achieve the RP without any help from their alliance mates. That would have been a significant change in the “meta” of qual matches. We wanted the Air Freight to be a fun additional dynamic (like previous STEMley bonus tasks), but not one that significantly changes the game.

The Air Freight points will be added to the “Adjust” field of the FMS, which will add to the total score without affecting any RP bonus.

  • FRC Event Web links
  • Pit assignments
  • Storage room assignments
  • The FRC Queue App

In the document it looks like 3015 isn’t going anymore, but on the registered teams section of the website 3538 is gone with 3015 there.
