The National Youth Leadership Forum on Technology

Has anyone ever been to or know anything about this organization and/or the program? I was nominated to be a delegate representing South Carolina! Just wondering if anyone has gotten this invitation also and if you’re going! Reply ASAP please! Thanks!

I went to the National Youth Leadership Forum on Law last November and I really like it a lot. It’s run by the same people as the tech one. While I don’t know the details about the tech one but from what I found out about the law one, you’ll only have fun if you’re pretty sure that’s the field you’re going into because its intense and you do a lot of stuff in those days. We got to do mock criminal and supreme court cases, visit Washingon DC court rooms, talk to district attorneys, and learn about the different fields. I had so much fun also because ours was in DC, a place full of things to do, and the people that go have a lot in common with you usually. If you’re trying to decide what field to go into though, I say that there are less expensive ways of figuring that out.

I was invited too and I really want to go but I’m having trouble convincing my parents :-/

As an Alumni representative of the International Summit of Young Technology Leaders 2002 (we just changed over to NYLF-Tech) I’d be happy to answer your questions. Only sophmores and juniors are allowed to attend unless as a senior you are an alumni representative. This is a nice 10 day funtion with seminars and site visits you can attend (they’re optional), the speakers are people like Michael Dell (its more computer oriented) and the rumor has it Steve Jobs and the crew that founded Apple (well a few of them) will be amongst the guest speakers this year. I personally nominated two from 180 (my team) and one from 179. last year there was two from 128 (Ashiegh and Katie) and one from 312 (Andrew T.). Only four of us robotics nuts. I haven’;t convinced my parents yet and the application is due January 29th. My ID at the NYLF-Tech boards is usfrist180spam and e-mail me at [email protected] Last year it was in Austin so it was local companies that some of us have never heard of like Motive Communications, others went to nearby colleges (the program they sent you should give a good clue). Whatever you do, tackle the dilemma project like the us F.I.R.S.T. robotics game and you’ll do fine. Contact me if you need to, I’d be happy to answer any questions or forwad them up the appropriate channel.

I was chosen for this program also. Not sure if I want to go though…

Cory

its a whole lotta fun running around from 7am- 11pm at night (thats generally the time your ALLOWED to be out of your room)…not like we didn’t sneak out (laughs). FIRST robotics has you prepared for that…you know how competitions are

i got nominated and got accapted i hope to see you guys there

i got nominated but i couldnt go :frowning:

ps- instead im going to a programming camp! are you?

I got nominated for the mdical one. I couldn’t go but some of my friends say it is totally worth the money and it is an experienc of a life time.

I was accepted for the Law one for the past two years but could not pay for it so I never attended. A few of my friends went though and said it was a lot of fun… I regret not going and reccomend you go.

FYI if you are looking into a program that is like this one although there is more debate and it is political I suggest the Junior State of America… it is less expensive and you still go to D.C. to meet cabinet members to the president and members of the congress and senate. It only lasts for a 3 days though.

I also got invited to both Tech and then to Law, I’m not sure though If they Intentionally invited me to both, on one letter/pamphlet it was addressed “james Brown” and the other"James Browne") but I couldn’t go to either because I couldnt afford to lose the money I would be making this summer and at the same time spend more money.

my brother went and he had tons of fun… this was when he was back in highschool so a few years back…made some pretty cool friends and all…of course ran into FIRSTers…

they had some cool things to go to he said…his was in texas…and toured a few historic sites and all…

Jessica,
I am also seeking information on this forum, as my son Brandon has been nominated to represent Texas. So far, the only information I have found is through the info sent to him and online. Please let me know if you find anything else about it, The one he is nominated for is being held in San Jose, CA. Is this the same one as yours?

Keep in mind that Jessica’s post is now almost three years old and the last post to this thread before yours was in June, 2005. Someone else may be able to provide you the information you’re seeking, but it may not be Jessica.

Yes i got nominated from my school in Suffield CT! I talked w/ my guidance counsler an he said he has never heard anything bad about it. My parents want me to go this summer, but who knows! It does sound interesting!
