The Offical Bar-Lok Poll

After many disputes, it is time to settle this once and for-all.

I must agree with Andy Grady on this one…

Jacob

Well, looking at the poll results, it seems that zip-ties is the most common answer…

Is there a joke that I am missing somewhere about Bar-Lok?

[Edit]Thanks for explaining that little part [Edit]

Yea its Zip Ties no question.

How do you figure they’re "Bar-Lok"s anyway? It definitely says “Bar-Lok® Cable Ties” on the bag…

Diddlee-dee… I call them cable ties… it’s what they’re USED FOR!

Unless you, like, put them in people’s hair or something.

It’s zip ties, though.

No matter what you use them for they are tieing with a nice little zip…cant get enough of that zip noise…ohhh yesss…

Well, according to wiki, Bar-Lok is another name.

(BTW… I did not add it to the wiki page. )

Coming into robotics, I had always called them “tie straps” when using them in RC cars and such. My dad’s an electrical engineer, and that’s what he called them, so that’s what I called them.

I’ll never forget my first day, when we got to work on building the field, and our head of mechanical told me to give her some zip ties. “Some whats?” “…zip ties.” “Oh you mean tie straps, right?” “…no, what the heck is a tie strap”

I tried to maintain my terminology as long as I could… but it was no use :stuck_out_tongue:

YAYAYAY!!!

Mike M. is on my side! See! Now I have almost 3% of the vote

:frowning:

Oh well. Wait till Andy Grady comes back online. I’m sure he’ll be with me!

Jacob

We call them tie wraps. I think it might just depend on where your from on what you call them.

Err… that zip noise and other noises like it (Velcro un… velcroing, for instance) hurt my ears like nails on a chalk board.

And I’ve got Andy Baker on my side… no one beats Andy Baker… Refer to this thread if you’d like to dispute that.

Seems that Zip Ties is winning. ZZZZZZZZZZIP

Although I believe their name is Cable Ties, I call them Zip Strips.
How good is a poll that tells you the “correct” answer, anyway? (although not many people pick that one)

At work we call them electrical ties. Something different, and yet logical.

Ya know…

I’m sure back in the day, there were neigh-sayers out there who called playdough, “modeling clay”.

Or maybe Kleenex, “nasal tissue”.

Or Coca Cola…“Carbonated Soda Beverage”

Eventually the bold ones win out. Good always wins over evil in the end.

I mean seriously…Americans are stubborn when it comes to things like this. Just look at the metric system.

Just keep callin them Bar-Loks my friend. Eventually the rest of the world will be infected.

-Andy Grady

I usually call them zip ties, (well, they do make a zipping noise and they hold things together, like tying a string around them) but I have been known to call them chain tensioners from time to time.

Ty-Rap, like Bar-Lok, is a registered trademark for a brand of cable ties. Zip may have been a trademark at one time (like Aspirin) but it’s not now.

Just as long as the communication is clear for everyone, you can call them “Luxury Yacht”* for it matters.
