I can’t believe it… I was signing on to AIM and I looked at todays top headlines… I read about the nine states banning the Pledge of Allegiance… The states are California, Oregon, Washington, Arizona, Montana, Idaho, Nevada, Alaska and Hawaii… This makes me so sad… I mean that has been our Pledge since, I think, the American Revolution… Why are people attacking our history and right to Pledge our Allegiance???
Only since the 1930s dude. Way to many people are over reacting because of the word god in it.
I wasn’t sure on the year but still… I mean what are they thinking!!!
They were thinking with their heads, not their SUVs.
I applaud this. It’ll make the country, I hope, examine its foundation and maybe…just maybe…make things a better for all of us.
Nobody is attacking your right to pledge allegiance to anything. Rather, the 9th Circuit courts were doing their duty to uphold the Constitution of the United States.
So, in fact, I’d argue that it’s the 9th Circuit that is protecting our history, not attacking it.
We are all under God no matter what… If they do this to Massachusetts then I will continue as if there was a Pledge and say it every morning in School… What are they going to go after next??? Maybe the Star Spangled Banner…
What do you mean by “they are thinking with their heads and not their SUVs?” What do SUVs have to do with anything? They are not bad…

i think he’s talking about those rediculious commericals that say “what would Jesus drive?” people are trying to connect terrorism to SUV’s because they use more gas than other vehicals. it’s all a rediculious scam to screw with peoples heads.
and, to get back on topic. If they had to take God out of the Pledge then they would have have take it off all of our money. it would pretty much change EVERYTHING about America. BAD idea…
I agree…

We are all under God no matter what…
YOU ARE THE EXACT KIND OF PERSON I HATE. I feel so frustrated inside. You’re one of those people I try to explain something simple to but it doesn’t ever work. NO NO NO we are not under God no matter what. Maybe in your conceited mind we are, but the USA grants something called freedom of religion (or lack of it) and does not require everyone to be under GOD GOD GOD. That post offends people beyond belief here in a liberal city like Ithaca.
To everyone else: I come off sounding harsh but I am not one who has patience with people who can never accept anything else… It’s too… American.

Actually, I thought those commercials were reasonably clever. They’re a bit extremist, for sure, and not entirely accurate, but they are clever.
What I meant was, really, that the 9th Circuit was giving due consideration to the founding tenets of this country, understanding the language of the Constitution as it related to the climate of the times. The judges were not thinking about what would get them re-elected or what might be best for them. They were thinking about the principles of a country and they took an amazing step toward regaining the integrity of a nation.

I hope they do. There should be clear separation of church and state.
Well posting this was a stupid idea so I’m going to stop posting here… I just wanted to get everyone’s opinion and all I get is the start of a fight… Sorry for posting…
To be quite honest, I’m happy they are doing this. The whole “under God thing” makes me cringe every time I had to say it.
We are all under God no matter what
I’m sorry…but not everyone is “under God” The only people “under God” are those who buy into the Christian beliefs. I am not a Christian, and I gladly state that. I’m a Pagan and I’m sick of people trying to “show me the light” and have me see under the Christian way.
A certain religion should NOT be forced onto the elementry, middle, or high school students. Each person should have a right to decide what path is right for them and devise their own beliefs. A govermental system that is based on the “freedom of the people” should NOT tell the citizens of this land what they should agree with. We have a right to freedom of religion in this land and we all should one be allowed to enjoy that, not just deal with what a gov’t told us to do.
i closed this thread becaust it was quickly exculating into a flame war. i was hoping it wouldnt esculate to it, but it was necessary
Yup. The decision was made. Let’s just move on with our lives.
People may choose to believe whatever they want to. So, don’t go on and say anyone is “wrong” for believing something.
