We won’t officially move into the new build space until after the season is over, but they are currently holding class in it, and we had our first team meeting in the room last night! I took the opportunity to do a quick (1 minute 22 seconds) video walkthrough of the space for everyone’s enjoyment/drooling.
I started at the main entrance to the space from the school. First up, we have a dedicated LEGO League room on the right, complete with adjustable height benches, a big table for the yearly challenge and more LEGOs than I had growing up!
Next, we look through some windows into the future machine shop area. Plenty of windows to give it a nice open feel, double doors so we can close off the sound, two adjustable power drops from the ceiling, and of course a master emergency stop switch that will kill everything but the lights! I’ve attached a picture of the planned layout for the room.
Now we’re getting into the cool area - the assembly area! We currently have the trailer pulled in to do some work on it (adding non-slide footing to the door, and some hinged material to help get over the bumps), but that entire end of the room is dedicated to the robotics team. The other end (that already has tables in it) can serve as overflow if we really need it (so long as we clean up every night!), but it’s there primarily for the engineering and physics classes.
The classroom is next, which doubles as a half-field practice area. The desks are all on wheels (way too much fun to resist!), so they can be easily pushed out of our way in the evenings. The ceilings in this place are massive, giving us more than enough height for any of the challenges the team has had for the past 7 years.
Past the classroom is a conference room, complete with a kitchenette. There’s a massive HD TV we can connect the computers too, and plenty of white boards. This area will primarily be used by the PR and programming team.
The space is absolutely filled with windows and great lighting. They really did an awesome job catering to all of our needs when they built it!
I’ve also included pictures of the clocks in the new space… each one is different, and each one is cooler than the last! Can anyone help us find an awesome, cheap LEGO clock?
