The Robonauts have created a wooden version of the Generator switch and several teams have asked us how we made it so we created plans for it that can be found here.
We will also be adding more photos of the Generator Switch to the Google Drive folder linked above.
As a note, no structural calculations were made when designing this but we went conservative when designing it and it has held up well to all of the testing we have done with it so far.
Thanks for sharing this. We are nearly finished assembling our generator structure (heavily inspired by your design) and looking through your design has provided a couple of areas that we may want to add some additional reinforcements to our design to make it a little more stable.
One question, did you follow the standard practice field plans for the switch itself, or did you modify that design as well? We have not yet built the switches themselves and we were thinking of deviating a bit from the standard design. But if your experience with the standard design is good, we will probably follow those plans as-is.
Our switch was generally the same as the practice field plans except we added extra sheets of plywood to where the switch pivots from the pipe at the top to increase strength.
