A somewhat unexpected answer came out of this Q by team 694 in that yes, a pre-activated Stage 1 also counts for an awarded RP.

So a team needs to simply design an autonomous program to:

  • score 9+ balls
  • hermit crab to be under their trench
  • contact the wheel of fortune
  • …and then lie in wait for their opponent to drive into them because they were trying to autonomously snipe the power cells that started in their opponent’s trench.

What could be simpler? Not only do you get a G10 tech foul but a ranking point!

I’ll send a case of Faygo Red Pop to the first team to pull this off.

This scenario is plausible, but exceedingly rare I think.

And, I don’t think that it would be a good idea to try and snipe those balls that late in auton

It shouldn’t have been that unexpected. I mean, Q&A is just confirming that G12 says what it says. But it doesn’t seem like the most likely rule violation we’ll be seeing this year, no.

Having been the one to think of the question, I must say I was pretty surprised by the answer. I was just reviewing the rules for my referee certification and stumbled upon the rule and thought, “this must be phrased wrong, let me ask the question.” I can’t imagine it will ever happen, but I’m still surprised at the response.
