Could anyone help me out, where would i find the controller for the robot(like the ones for first, but just like a spider chip or something like that, just making a remote control car… where would i get something like that??? Thanks!

Check out http://www.parallaxinc.com
They make the stamp 2 processors that are inside the controller. They also have little robot kits you can buy.

The FIRST site also has some good links, like http://www.robotics.com/robomenu/ and some others, maybe you could get in touch with a builder of one of the robots that are listed on the URL above.

just kidding.
to answer your question though, go look at all the robotics sites on the net and the many magazines out there. they often generate tons of advertisments and recommendations for control systems for robotic hobbies as such. they’re also cheap.

If my team captain is advocating this, does this mean he is giving permission to one of his teamates to ‘accidentally’ run off with the controller? Or does it mean he himself should be watched day and night? ( i pitty the guard who gets stuck with that job).

I noticed Innovation First had a demo of a MUCH smaller version of our control system at kickoff…they also have a section for it at their web site…

The Innovation First controllers are based on the Basic Stamp microcontroller. These devices are avaialable from Digi-Key, you need the chip kit, software and programming cable but they program in P-Basic like the robot controller. The Stamp is manufactured by Parallax inc. You have to provide the wireless link though.

It should be fairly simple to make your own remote control car, if that is all that you want to do. There isn’t much of a reason to mess with Stamp 2s or innovation first controllers for just a remote controlled car. I’ve only been into a hobby shop once (To replace a burned out Tekin Speed controller, remember those?), but I seem to remember that they had everything that you would want to make a remote controlled car.
