National Defense Education Program (NDEP)
By Congressional authorization, the National Defense Education Program (NDEP) supports the future workforce needs of the Department of Defense.
NDEP does this by supporting US students across the entire spectrum of their education experience via three major program components –
- pre-college program
- university scholarship program
- faculty fellowship program.
FIRST is a member of NDEP.
Also tied to NDEP are the DoD Research and Test and Evaluation Labs. The DOD lab in Georgia part of the U.S. Air Force and is located at Robins AFB, Warner Robins GA.
More information is at: http://www.ndep.us/
Speaking of Robins AFB, GRITS - Georgia Robotics Invitational Tournament and Showcase is being held this weekend, October 15th at the Museum of Aviation at Robins AFB: http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/showpost.php?p=1055536&postcount=10
Lunch at GRITS this year is sponsored by the U.S. Army. Free lunch for everyone. Sorry, no MRE’s but regular sub sandwiches.
Kell Robotics is doing a lot of collaboration with DoD recruiters to help connect students with career opportunities. These opportunnities are both in regular military as non-commissioned, warrant, and commissioned officers. AND as civilian DoD research and development engineers, and as civilian contractor engineers.
Most people know you can become a ROTC candidate and earn a degree and a commission. But did you know there are opportunities earn your way through college as an engineering student, and still be a civilian. Very similar to ROTC but you are civilian when you get out of school. There are similar opportunities for students that want to be in the reserves.
If you are in college already, you can apply for internships at DoD research labs. A year of college costs is offset by a year of civilian engineering work at DoD.
There are a lot of great opportunities and I will post more information in a few days.
