What are your thoughts on AprilTags and if they are worth purchasing for a 2nd year team that has a pretty small budget.
Print them if you’re going to use them. I wouldn’t worry about purchasing them at this time.
There’s an April Tag guide (including print-at-home) with the team field elements.
Just print em out, if you want to you can get some polycarb covers, or you can try laminating them. For getting started just paper works fine.
I fully agree with the laminating idea. They always seemed to get destroyed otherwise. If you do laminate I recommend spraying them with some matte clear spray paint. It will really help when detecting in bright rooms as it significantly cuts down the glare. We did it last year in the offseason and helped a lot.
Print on Avery 15265 labels.
Then cut foam board rectangles w/ an exacto knife.
Then stick the printed tags on the foam boards.
As long as you don’t leave them outside or in a garage they will last all season.
Alternatively, print on regular paper can then use spray adhesive to glue them to the foam board. We did this last year, and they lasted all season.
Print. Put on clipboard. Put clipboard on prop in correct place. Just make sure they’re the right size.
If you’re spending money, do it on cameras (arducam B&W global shutter cameras are common) and a co-processor.
