Three District Events?

So, looking at the FRC Calendar (http://bit.ly/aX8Ia9), I see February 11, 2011, Third District Event Payment Due.

Of course, since rookies haven’t registered yet, we don’t know how many team-events there will need to be, and with District Planning Committees still working, we don’t actually know if it’s a possibility. But it all builds up to the question… is competing at three district events a possibility?

I’d assume that would require one more event than last year, because the # of teams is growing. Though if there was a degree of growth is that last year’s seven wasn’t enough, but 8 won’t completely fill up, then I think we might be in business. Thoughts?

The first year of districts, there were a handful of openings allowing some teams to compete in three. Off the top of my head I remember 67, 1918, 1504, 68, 216, and 288 each competing in three. The third event didn’t count toward point totals.

The case of 216 is interesting, because they really struggled at their first event but at their third event they won and played extremely well. The points they earned didn’t count toward their total and they were able to sneak into states after several teams above them declined.

I hope there are not many extra spots available because it will turn into a mad dash to see who can register at the right time.

Right, we (2337) did as well. I’d actually be rather excited to compete at three again.
Though the third didn’t turn out any better than the second or the first, I have higher hopes for next year. haha

Unless FIM didn’t want to have new teams this year, they’d have to add another event. After adding another event, they need 20 new teams to fill the new spots. If less then 20 new teams are added, there will be space for some teams to have a 3rd event.

(Or FIM would have to change the event size).
