Thunder Down Under Robot Animation

We have done a simple CAD of our robot, with and animated it. Check it out.

Looks great! Its a nice advantage to be able to go over and under.

Only one thing though, when you go over the bump, those tracks aren’t going to stay rigid like they do in the animation, and thus probably wouldn’t make it over the bump that easily. But, I assume you already worked that bit out and the animation is just a rough representation.

Very nice. I want to know how the treads work out for you guys, considering they’re not something you see on every robot.

Sorry for the confusion, this was a first draft of our robot, the current design is a bit different. Hopefully, we will get a new animation (with our new design) up today.

I think we have actually dropped the tracks and going over the bumps. We’re going for a two wheel drive in the middle with casters on the ends.

Thanks,
timytamy

I have a render of Revision 3, we’re up to Revision 8 now :S

HELLOOooooo from TEAM 88 ::safety::
We had that type of drive back in 96, turned very well but hard to drive in a straight line, I liked the vid. Keep going dont stop now almoust 1/3 of the time is used up !@@$##%$%^&* GOOD LUCK from TEAM 88 TJ2 OH YEAH !!!:smiley:
MOE

We have used that style of drive every year but '09 (@#@#@#@# provided wheels), but it seems that our drivers haven’t had much trouble. Whenever I try driving a tank drive robot, I fail, so I don’t know they do it.
I dont know if this is feasible, but I was maybe thinking have even a third joystick, controlling forward/back motion, which powers on both of the motors for easy driving.
