I was just looking at the timeline for the upcoming competition season, and was counting weeks. There are more than the usual 6 weeks between kickoff and the first competition weekend. Any speculations on a longer build period? Or is FIRST just trying to give themselves a little more time to get all the 'bots organised for regionals?

Because all the regionals are held on four consecutive weekends with the Nationals the weekend after that there have been postings on this forum concerning how FIRST will get robots to the right place at the right time. Now you know for sure that FIRST has a plan; they know what they’re doing. What could that plan be? Here are two possibilities:

  1. Teams don’t get until Tuesday to work on their robots after the regionals. On the Saturday of the competition they put the robots back in the boxes and turn them over to FIRST. FIRST then has four days to ship them to the next competition.

  2. or, at the other extreme, teams never send their robots to FIRST, just bring them to each competition, work on them as much as they want before and between competitions.

They probably won’t do either of the above but how about an ‘Oracle of Delphi Award’ to whoever correctly posts the most prescient prediction each season on this web site.
