I compiled some basic statistics on the qualifying match scores of Regional Competitions through March 20th. Only qualifying match scores were used. Elimination round matches were not included. The AZ match data has not been posted on the FIRST web page, so I’ve probably missed some good robots from the south.
FYI, the average score of ALL qualifying matches is 51. The highest qualifying score has been 200.
Here is a list of robots that have a documented qualifying average score of 80 or greater. I’d say that “statistically”, these are the 'bots to beat - since they can consistently score highly no matter who their alliance partner is (which is why I only considered the qualifying match scores in the analysis). I apologize if I’ve missed anyone - and I’ll keep this list “up-to-date” as more Regional Events are completed. If I’ve missed anyone, and you want to be on the list - send me your Team # and your Regional Event and I’ll check your data.

Here’s the same list with the Regional Event referenced:

I am not sure of anyother teams from UTC but I had gotten bored during prob&stat class and actually did some computations and I have figured out that my team, 521, was able to average 83 points during our nine qualifying matches
Hey, that was a sweet win at GLR for the Flyers. I paid a lot of attention to that Regional and was pleased to see two GM teams in the winning alliance. Unfortunately, your Q/scores of 70, 80, 60, 120, 75, 90, and 60 give you an average of 70. Still well above the national average of 51 - which explains why you did so well!!!
Before I get crucified by all you stats experts out there, I had an error in my Excel spreadsheet (“measure twice, cut once” applies here too!). So I need to REVISE THE LIST (Upward!)
105 Points Average (double yikes!) - Team 501 (New Hampshire)
99 Points - Team 236 (New England)
98 Points - Team 254 (Sacramento)
96 Points - Team 222 (Chesapeake), Team 311 (Long Island)
95 Points - Team 753 (Sacramento)
94 Points - Team 650 (St. Louis)
91 Points - Team 69 (New Hampshire)
88 Points - Teams 1114 (Long Island), 945 (Florida), 233 (Florida)
87 Points - Team 571 (New England)
84 Points - Teams 237 (New Jersey), 219 (New Jersey)
83 Points - Team 131 (New Hampshire), 521 (New Hampshire)
81 Points - Team 181 (New England)
80 Points - Team 616 (Virginia)
I’m sure there are robots I’ve missed - particularly those hovering around the 80 points level (I’ll try to keep up with those that post responses)…In the future, I’ll probably just keep a list of the top 10 average scores. The cutoff for that right now appears to be at 88 – so if you think you’re above 88 right now, then let me know. I’m sure that score will only increase in the next couple of weeks as experience pays dividends.
This gives our overall average score of 83.5 points/qualifying match.
This makes sense to me because so many of the teams at UTC had already attended an event. I also think that the nature of the game this year lends itself to a steep learning curve. Many teams struggle initially, but once they find their specialties, they drastically increase their scoring. I look forward to some monster scores at nationals!
If you’re talking about the BAE Regional, Team 138’s Q/scores of 60, 50, 130, 85, 40,45, 120, and 55 give you a scoring average of 73. Still pretty good!
I’d be even more interested to see these in relation to the regionals average score. For example, 501’s average is 49 points above the NH average and is a lot more impressive then 236 being “only” 27 points above the NE average. I think 501 deserves a triple yikes
Edit: I’m not on 1403, you misread the last digit We (1405) only averaged 60 something at Chesapeake.
Okay, I’ll revise this to a top 10 list only…So far the cutoff is an average of 88. Anyone that thinks I’ve missed them, let me know and I’ll check it out…
I’ll also update this after the Regionals this weekend.
105 Points Average (double yikes!) - Team 501 (New Hampshire)

96 Points - Team 222 (Chesapeake), Team 311 (Long Island)
95 Points - Team 753 (Sacramento)
94 Points - Team 650 (St. Louis)
91 Points - Team 69 (New Hampshire)
88 Points - Teams 1114 (Long Island), 945 (Florida), 233 (Florida)
