After assembling one of our motors the bearings keep falling out. Has anyone had this problem/does anyone have any tips?
which bearing? you may have put them in wrong. the flange is suppose to go on the insides of the plates
thanks sam. i had posted that under a team mate’s name earlier and then figured it out. you were absolutely right too. thanks for the help.
In case other teams are having fit issues not related to orientation I offer this tip.
In some situations, manufacturing tolerances are exceeded and the bore is too large for the bearing.
If this is the case, you can take a center punch/hammer and make one ore more small impressions in the bore and/or outer race of the bearing. This will deform the local surface enough to “snug” up the fit.
I would not deform the bearing or the plate. There are many glues that would be better to correct a loose fit. Do not allow the glue to penetrate the bearing.
It should be just fine if you put dimples around the edges, or use loctite or other type of adhesive to hold them in. Definitely make sure that they are in the correct orientation.
Last year our team put the flanges on the outside and the bearings do fall out !
Mentors make sure to verify the students work !
