Can a robot climb, score a piece in one of the traps, and then de-climb and score a trap in another spot? And if not at what point does it become illegal? Could you just de-climb to readjust your position on the chain?

I have yet to find a rule that forbids this. Historically, endgame points are only scored at the end of the match, so it shouldn’t make a difference. That said, rules can change, and it’s entirely plausible I missed the rule in my reading.
I had a similar idea to this, and a skim of the rules doesn’t prohibit it, so if you can safely dismount i don’t see why you wouldn’t be allowed to score more traps. All that said, I could be wrong or this might change later.
Is there a rule that says that a robot has to be “Onstage” at the end of the game in that side to make the trap count?
There is no rule about that. However, in order to get the bonus RP it does require at least 2 onstage robots.
