Travel To Regionals

Hey guys!

I hope robot building/design is going well…

Actually, my question is unrelated. I am wondering how the teams who do, handle travel. If you could mention travel, transportation, busing, hotels…etc.

If you happen to know alot about this, it would be great if you could phone my school and ask for our club advisor, or if I could call your school and speak with you.

Thanks,

Chris

Well… How big is your Team, cause if you have a small team you can get away with traveling in those big 18 passenger vans, If you team is bigger you probaly want to go with a bus of some type, weather it be a school bus or one of those bigger one with big seats and TVs is up to you.

chris-
i think i remember your team being by ours in the pits last year at LA. Is it the LA competition that you’re wondering about transportation for or another regional? For LA everyone was responsible for his own ride since it was during our spring break last year and the year before people had to figure it out too since it wasn’t an official field trip where we had to get permission and all that. I think it just ended up being parents volunteering to drive and people setting up their own carpools.

If you’re wondering about long distance travel, give me an IM, I did that for my team last year (yup, I reserved the airplane tickets, hotels, and rental cars all by myself on the advisor’s credit card).

Chris,

My team is also from LA, and we usually drive to our regionals. Usually a parent on the team is assigned the job of finding an economical hotel and such for the students and mentors. Additionally, parent volunteers make room assignment lists and assign the volunteers what students they will be responsible for.

When we drive up, we usually take as many minivans as we can get from parents and have the individual parents take up several kids in each. This is the cheapest way we found to get to a regional that is within driving distance. If you want more details on how team 330 handles travel or the contact info on our travel coordinator, IM me at SeanR330.

I hope your build is going well!

Hello there all you So Cal-ers.

As Chris left out, we have 17 students and are looking to go from the LA area to the Phoenix regional. We are not flying but we were wondering what everyone else does for regionals like 6-7 hours drive away. Post everything about getting good rates, hotels, where to stay, timing for everything, etc, etc.

Thanks for your help,

We drive to all our regionals. We get parents with vans to drive all our students, and it usually works out fine. For Nationals, we fly down and then rent 15-passenger vans when we get there.
