Trouble booting Linux from hard drive after CD install

I built my computer today and installed Linux (Fedora) from CD. The install process went smoothly but when it came time to reboot and load Fedora from the hard drive, where it was copied, the computer couldn’t read it. The BIOS are set to boot hard drive first, CD second, and the computer recognizes the hard drive as the primary master and all that, but the computer still asked for the system disk. I can run Linux from CD just fine.

I think this is a hardware problem, but I was wondering if anyone can offer any advice on where to look. Thanks.

You may not be done installing yet.

What error message are you getting? Is it the BIOS “invalid system disk” message? Or a “kernel panic” message?

If it is the first message, you probably did not get the boot loader installed in the master boot record. Either the install did not finish. Or, your BIOS may have a protection to prevent viruses from writing to the master boot record.

In the latter case, you would turn the virus protection off and re-install (actually, most installations have a rescue feature or you could upgrade).
