@DinoH can you check that your computer name has just Alphanumeric characters? You can also find more troubleshooting steps here: FRC 2019 Firmware Update Failing
We have exactly the same error. We had to speak to NI and they told us they would send us a new flash for the roborio.
Were you able to try with more than one computer? Meaning: did we isolate that the problem was in the roboRIO and not the host machine that is attempting to image the device?
Make sure the name of your computer doesn’t have any dashes in it. I literally just came across the same thing and I have been trying to get this to work for over an hour now…
We tried with three computers, two of which gave us this error and one of which couldn’t connect to the RoboRIO.
Interesting. Were you connecting by USB? Did you try by Ethernet connection, too?
I also echo @retrodaredevil’s suggestion of ensuring no dashes are in the computer name.
Also, I think because it says corrupt firmware, you will have to update the firmware again. I’m having this issue right now and now I’m getting a similar error with an invalid pointer error.
So, I actually don’t have this solved yet.

Is this with the software imaging process, or still the firmware upgrade?
(If you have not already) I recommend turning off the computer, turning back on (this will help clear any cached errors or something that would make the driver or API misbehave); then open the Imaging Tool as administrator in the computer with the roboRIO connected by USB, and try again.
I would also ensure there are no other programs running in the background just to ensure they are not trying to find internet connection in the roboRIO and thus interfering with the data transmission with the device (at the end, the roboRIO by USB behaves as another Ethernet adapter for the computer). Does this give the same error? Do we see a different behavior in the roboRIO Status LED?
The connection is USB to USB A. And the computer name has one dash.
Thank you, restarting the computer, closing the other tabs, and switching to safemode fixed the problem.
That’s great to hear! Thanks for confirming the resolution @DinoH
I believe that error was in the reformatting, so the software imaging process.
Yeah, I saw that it was recommended to connect it via USB, however I couldn’t get a connection to the robot when I did that. So I’ve never tried the firmware upgrade or software reformat with the USB cable.
I will definitely try this tomorrow when I attempt the reimaging again.
The laptop I tried to use was running Windows 7 (the driver station laptop for this year). I tried using our DS laptop from last year with runs windows 10. With that I was able to successfully upgrade the firmware using last year’s NI install. If I can’t get the Windows 7 laptop to work, I might just try and the Windows 10 computer to do all this stuff.
I haven’t tried to see if I could get the USB to work on our Windows 10 computer and I will try that tomorrow.
