Tunnel part of Tower

So what does this mean? http://forums.usfirst.org/showthread.php?p=35746#post35746

If the TUNNEL is part of the TOWER, and since a Red robot cannot touch the Blue TOWER during the FINALE period, does that mean a Red robot cannot drive through the space of Blue’s TUNNEL, even if it touches nothing but air and carpet?

My guess is that their intent was to define the tunnel walls and ceiling as part of the tower not necessarily the space they confine.

Otherwise would it not have been easier to simply say the carpet under the tunnel IS part of the tower or red cannot drive through blue’s tunnel during the finale?

I think that because they say that the carpet under the tunnel is not considered part of the tower that their intent was not to say red cannot go through blue’s tunnel but red can’t touch the side walls or ceiling while doing so.

I sure hope so.

But considering the tight clearances in the TUNNEL, it’s probably wise not to attempt a transit during FINALE lest you nudge the side of it.

Likewise you may come out of the tunnel under 300 lbs in the form of two robots crashing down on you.

I actually posted those questions…

And my read of their answer is that you are welcome to TRY to drive under the tunnel (the carpet is zoneless) during the finale but you had better have VERY good driving skills and not touch ANY part of the tunnel or you will be penalized…

All the more reason for teams to conquer the bumps in my opinion…

The way I see this, it says that robots of the opposing alliance may drive under the tunnel in the final part of the game. As for a reason why anyone would attempt this, imagine if a team who designs their bot only to be able to go under the tunnels gets caught on the other side of the field in the end game. The only hope of them getting back to their tower is to go under the tunnel. I just hope they have good aim! either that, or watch the clock and don’t get caught over there!

In my honest opinion, this probebly means that you can do this and earn all the bonus points during the finale http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?pid=30528081&id=36301077

The center robot is not ELEVATED and is not SUSPENDED, so it gets no bonus. The left and right robots are not in contact with an ELEVATED or SUSPENDED robot, so they get no bonus.

I’m fairly sure that the center robot is elevated, because it is in contact with the tower and every part of the robot is above the plane of the platform. That would then make the other 2 robots suspended.

The little ramp deals of the center robot are below the platform.

It depends on the ownership of the “liney” parts that hitch the robots together. If they are part of the upper robot on the platform, then not all parts of that robot are above the plane of the platform - that robot is not elevated - no points for any of the robots. If both of the lines are parts of the robots to which they connect, then the conglomeration would be worth 8 points total. However, it’s hard to see how a robot could have parts that are below its own wheels. Not impossible, just hard to do, n’est pas?
