A recent trend has swept the Open Alliance team text channels (originating from Ari G on 3636) - turning your onshape robot cad into a cool sticker-like image akin to the ones below from my team (Vector 8177).
I see this style of image used as a cool sticker (if you somehow made that work with all the fine lines) or a different way to slap your robot onto a season shirt. Here are the steps to do it yourself on OnShape, although you may be able to get the same view from different software/open your .stp or .sldprt in onshape and do it that way.
Steps @Takimeps 2713
1) Open up your main robot assembly and move around the object until you get a desirable view (the examples above were top right + a little adjustment). Then, select the little dropdown next to the view cube in the top right and choose the “hidden edges removed” option.
Another cool option is the “translucent” view with “highlighted edges visible”. This produces an interesting effect as seen on 4131’s bot here.
2) Select the 3 vertical lines next to the OnShape logo in the top left, and select print. It will print the assembly the exact way it’s on your screen right now, so make sure it’s in place before you go to save the image. Now simply select your size in the “Print Setup” box and click download image!
3) This should have saved a black-outlined image of the robot without a background. To convert this into the white-line alternate format above, I used this simple online tool:
I loaded the saved image, and typed in “black” and “white” for the “from color” and “to color” boxes respectively, and changed the “edge refinement radius” box to a new input of 1, as shown below. This outputs a seemingly high-res, white version of the OnShape image.
Let me know if you have any questions, and feel free to post your cool sticker designs below
