FIRST streamed kickoff on YouTube this year, which was a cool development since a lot of folks can’t or don’t want to watch on Twitch for various reasons (mostly school firewalls).
I noticed that YouTube was consistently about 25-30 seconds behind, but other than that, the experience was consistent. I checked every five (5) minutes and there were a lot more viewers on Twitch than YouTube, but still plenty on YouTube (in my opinion, enough to make it worthwhile for the future).
Thanks for posting this Jared. I think if FRC continues to do this in the future you’ll start to see the #'s get closer and closer especially given enough notice.
One thing that I think did hinder the YouTube stream is that live chat/comments were turned off. This does provide some incentive for those who wish to interact more to view on Twitch.
I would guess the delay was due to a re-stream of some sort too as otherwise YouTube typically has similar latency.
Didn’t even realize it was being streamed on YouTube. Would’ve made it much easier to watch than using a mobile hot spot with a laptop to get around Twitch being blocked by the school.
They announced it pretty last minute in a news letter. As it was their first time I’m guessing they wanted to play it safe in-case something went wrong.
But those kids just discovered the word “yapping” and were so excited to use it! Think of all the friends they made by telling a pre-recorded broadcast to hurry up instead of finding something else to do for 25 minutes.
