Two stage climb to score in the trap

Just wanted to share a very rough proof of concept which uses telescoping arms in conjunction with attachment chain to bring the chain down to bumper level for scoring in the trap. I think two small elevators might actually be better than the attachment chain loops.

This is really cool, would love to see updates as y’all refine it!

Our team is using a similar strategy! it seems to work and doesn’t take up too much space :grinning:

This may be the closest to a robot scoring in the trap (not shooting) we have seen publicly to date. Good work.

Nice work. May I suggest a synchronization shaft between the two hooks if your plan isn’t to use the difference to level/aim the bot.

Raid Zero makes some fun stuff.

Would you be open to sharing how the hooks for the second stage are attached to the chain? I had a similar idea (just for a one-stage climber for a non-trap climb) but wasn’t sure how to get a sturdy hook to attach and ride over sprockets as it did here.

The hardest part I think is trying to get the geometry to work with a 2 stage that fits under the stage. I have done extensive calculationsin which I have had very little to no success and the ones that have worked are normally not practical what so ever. How do you plan on scoring. If you don’t want to say I will just see in a later post.

It’s called attachment chain, I believe this style is called K-1. We just used m3 bolts to attach a steel plate to the chain.

Why do you have 3 (4?) batteries?

weight i assume

This is cool stuff!

Trying to shift the center of gravity closer to the arms. As you pull up closer and closer to the chain, it becomes dramatically more difficult to maintain static equilibrium.

Ohh awesome. That’s what I had looked at but I wasn’t sure it was strong enough. Thanks so much.

Pretty cool, pretty cool. Would love to see more teams go for the trap.

Could you build one climber that has the range of the top of the first stage to the second of the bottom stage? I assume that would be simpler and more reliable.

Andymark sells these at a really nice price if anyone is looking for a familiar place to buy them.

IIRC the actual chain broke before the K-Link failed under extreme load.

In 2022 we literally just bolted through the chain links to attach metal tubes to our links lol

Maybe if it was on a pivot and could fold down but we would like to be able to drive under the stage.
