Here is a video of our 2008 robot “lightning” doing his thing…
Apparently he was a little sick when we took the video… only 3 hurdles…

Nice bot, and website! Thats probably a pretty accurate representation of a real match with 3 hurdles.
That’s a cool idea for the gripper, looks very durable and fast. Nice machine!
it is actually… i guess the random veering into the walls represents possible defense.
The robot is a bit… um… destroyed in this movie, it just came back from the scrimmage, and it is actually a modded 2007 robot, so it has a LOT of hours (and slack) in it. so… im not suprised they only got 3
they usually get 5-7
I saw you in the scrimmage; great job! I love the innovative arm. The one thing that I can see that’s not perfect with your bot, is that you might have some contact outside the bumper zone with your arm. <G37>?
Good Luck…
Another great bot from the Uberbots! Looking forward to seeing you at the CT Regional.
Nice Bot. We missed you in Albany practice match. Good Luck this year.
Team 20
Our drivers are careful about that; and most of the time we have the ball tucked away in our iron (fiberglass?) grip so we don’t really have to worry.
That arm was inspired by many things… one of them is the little golf-ball retrievers, used to pick up golf balls from ponds and other unreachable places. one of the students came in one night and drilled 5 fiberglass reflector “lollypops” into a scooter wheel, and the idea became more pronounced from there.
Whats also cool is that the entire structure above the base of our bot is about 12 pounds, and we have a ton of ballast weight in the base, so our robot does not tip even in its raised position (you have to tip it 60* on the back wheels before it goes over, or 70* on the front wheels… tested empirically ).
On the robot we shipped, we added a fabric cover which prevents some of the entanglement we got with our arm at the scrimmage. Since it has such a big gripper, contact outside the bumper zone is a bigger threat, but we have our drivers practicing really hard to avoid that. (-:
IS the video supposed to be tiny? I’m squinting.
Otherwise, nice robot!
you guys looked really good at the scrimmage its seems like you guys are getting better every year, keep it up, i’ll be watching for a 3rd win in a row at UTC
3rd win? i dunno… ive seen a lot of other good robots this year. Im especially fearful of the shooter/catapult bots.
Thanks! I’m glad to see our team acting like a team, and our robot functioning… but a lot of other teams fulfill those criteria and more. I don’t know about a third consecutive win, because I’ve seen a lot of other really great robots this season.
just for your website guys, the tables are screwed up on safari a bit, making the video look the size of postage stamp.
Oh is that it? ill look into it… any suggestions? i could move it to a DIV layout but that would take a considerable amount of effort.
here is how it looks under Safari: http://img144.imageshack.us/img144/5585/safariww7.jpg
Well thats just screwy… leave it to a mac d=
Really though, ill see what i can do to fix it… i probably forgot to specify a width somewhere.
You missed us in albany? we arent even close to there?
Connecticut and New York are neighbors… we are close to there.
Your Bot looks crazy I think u guys got another championship coming up
