Unfortunate 2009 Boston Regional Incident

During the cleanup and packing of our tools and materials at the Boston Regional yesterday, we noticed that we were missing a small case (similar to the attached photo) which contained our C-RIO robot controller, two analog modules with the breakout bumpers, two digital modules, two CRio power connectors, the KOP gyro, the wireless bridge, the Webcam with the KOP mounting bracket and servos, and few Ethernet cables.

The case was a hard-side black and silver case about 15" x 18" x5" and was located in the area directly behind our pit area. We are hoping that someone picked it up by mistake and will contact us when it is discovered. Unfortunately the outside of the case was not labeled with our team number. The CRio and bridge did have team labels including our ip address.

We would appreciate it if all of the participating 20098 Boston Regional Teams can check through their team materials to see if someone may have inadvertently picked it up by mistake. We have contacted FIRST and BU Security and are hoping for the best.

Please contact me through Chief Delphi if you have any information. Obviously this is a major loss for our team. We are scheduled to compete in two weeks in Hartford and also in Atlanta. Any help you can provide would be much appreciated.

Check with Shepard shipping to see if they accidentally grabbed it.

All of the regional management are aware of our loss. The case itself was in the stands along with a bunch of other materal that was stacked to go back to the High Scholl on the bus. And while we had a mentor with the stuff at all times the case may have been a row or two behind where he was sitting. I fear that it may have “walked” during the one of the last final matches (the last time I saw it) or during the closing ceremonies.

Rick,

I’m sitting here with Ernie. He says you are welcome to anything we are not using (and you probably know as well as he does what that means!!!), including the webcam and mounting bracket, the KOP gyro, and the CRIO cards and components that we are not using. In the meantime, we’ll say a special prayer that your box will turn up. Have faith in the FIRST community; I’m sure someone walked away with it accidentally in the confusion of packing up.

Thanks Denise,

We will probably takeyou up on the gyro if we decide to get our practice bot up and running with the 2008 IFI controller. We won’t be able to use the webcam, no ethernet, but we may be able to simulate all of the other functions with last years system.

Rick or anyone else who lost anything,

When we packed up the pit admin crate we had: Some eyeglasses, a baseball cap and some other random things. They can be be claimed by contacting [email protected].

There was some items of value the arena staff found. They closed Guest Services before we could claim them. You can contact Guest Services at Agganis Arena to inquire about any other lost items. The contact information is here.

Whoever on your team is the official contact should check their email. The Agganis crew found it while cleaning up, and Steve Cremer (our RD) has contacted you.

Mikell,

Thanks for the update. I just received word by phone myself. Our Team Contact is making arrangements for it’s return.

Thanks for all of the support from the FIRST community. With a lesson learned we will make sure we aren’t as careless in the future.

Yea!!! So glad everything worked out for you, Rick. Hope we’ll see you this week.

I’m sure it will turn up.
I cant see anyone intentionally taking such a thing.
We had one girl forget her wallet at the arena and came back 2 hours later.
It was STILL there at the front of the Coliseum in Oregon, found by another adult at the event.

Well I thought we were out of the woods our found case has been lost again. They seem to have misplaced it at the arena. I’m hoping the staff member that locked it away on Saturday is back at work. The guy on site yesterday couldn’t locate it.

The good news is we will be able to compete with a borrowed cRio if it comes to that.

If any team has had a crazy season this year, it’s been 230. :ahh:

Persistance is key though Rick. I’m sure everthing will work itself out.

If you need anything by the time you get to Hartford, let me or anyone else on Team 237 know!
Until then, good luck!

Is it possible to edit the original post? Or the title? The issue was thankfully resolved and it would be nice not to have the negative stigma associated keep on.

Kate, do you have some inside info that Rick hasn’t posted? It sounds to me like the issue has not been resolved.

Well - I guess I misread. But regardless, it was found once and if there is an issue, it appears it was not FIRST affiliated? I hope that’s true

Hi Rick,
We are done with out robot until WPI Battlecry, so you are welcome to borrow anything you may need. We have all the kit CRIO parts, and did not buy anything beyond that.

Suggestion:
When the issue is resolved to the satisfaction of the original poster, in this case, Rick Vogl, then he, the original poster or OP, can contact a mod and ask that this thread be closed. He can also request that the thread title reflect the changes that he would like. That one may be a mod, or definitely, Brandon Martus could make the thread title change.

Jane

Jane,

I will most certainly close the post once the issue is resolved.

Kate,

I have no issue if the mod wants to change the title either. Perhaps it was a poor choice to begin with.

John,

Thank you very much for your offer. I believe there are a couple of other offers on the table, one of the other team mentors, John Niski, is working the issue. I believe we are also in the process of purchasing a replacement. One of our sponsors is opening up their wallet a bit wider.

Everyone thank you again for all of your support.

Moderator, you can go ahead and close this thread. By now Steve Cremer’s email has reached all of the Boston Regional teams. We have ordered a new cRio and the other components that we lost. We will be back in business for Hartford and Atlanta.

Thank you very much all of the teams that offered a loaner. For any teams attending Hartford and Atlanta if we have something you need it’s yours.

Denise and Ernie of 558 we’ll be by soon to borrow your gyro and camera as long as your sure you aren’t going to use them.

If by chance our stuff turns up I’ll let everyone know.
