Update 10

Update 10 is here. It addresses one thing–parts ordering for the new BaneBots carrier plate. Also addresses rule tweaks to accomodate the new plates.

It’s been said many times before, but again let’s thank Dr. Joe, FIRST, Banebots, and everybody else for being on top of all this. There was the potential for a huge mess, but it seems that everyone is handling it quite graciously. Having one less thing to worry about should make everyone’s build season and competition season just that much less stressful.

For those in a post first weekend regional, it’s not a major issue. For those in a first weekend, it could affect them more. It’s a great save for what could have been a bad situation.

I’m guessing we’ve got our tranny re-build time down under five minutes if we try. Allow another ten to drop the trannies from the frame and another ten to bolt it all back up again and we should be ready to go by nine A.M. at Portland… a first weekend regional. We’ll spend more time fixing the screw-ups that we make that weekend than we will fixing this tranny problem… and that’s with four of them on board!

Thanks to everyone involved… especially Banebots who are going out of their way to make sure everyone is taken care of whether they really need the new plates or not.

I have to say Kudos to FIRST, Banebots & Dr. Joe for this one… Im impressed with the speed that they came up with this solution (even if the anticipation was agonizing!) and that they are willing to admit the mistake and help teams fix it, and give them time, weight, etc to fix it.

I’ve heard a lot of grumbles of “oh this never should have happened”, but I keep thinking back to when I was on my HS team, and we never got a gearbox or a “kitbot”. Its our choice to use it, or design our own.

So thanks FIRST!
