So… I’m having trouble updating the frimware for the jaguar. My team is in the process of switching to CAN. I have the update, I have the bdc-comm. THe trouble is I don’t know how to get the update from the computer to the jaguar. What kind of port do I need to have the jaguar plugged into?

You must make the rj12 to db9 converter provided in the kit. Then plug the db9 into a computer and the rj12 into the jag

The issue was that I was using a db9 port. Now I’m using the Serial port.
However, when I try to update, I get the error message “Unable to contact boot loader.” I’m at a loss as to what I need to do.
Make sure you have the right COMM port selected in the upper left hand window of the BDC-COMM Tool. When you are connected to the jaguar you should see a firmware version and other indicators that you are connected properly. If you think you have the right port selected than it may be a problem with your terminator resistors or wiring setup. Make sure you can communicate with the Jaguar before trying to update the firmware.
THere’s only one com port that is available to choose. The firmware version is 0, which I know can’t be right. I’ve checked the wires and the terminator, and they both seem to be done correctly.
I am having the same issue (I am trying to update the jags firmware to be able to use the auto ramp feature). I have connected it, but when I run BDC-COMM it does not recognize that there is a jaguar hooked up, but if i plug it into the other port (which is the opposite of what was linked earlier tells you to do) then it displays everything as 0 and when I try to update firmware it displays the before mentioned error).
The only thing I can think of that would cause this is that it says to use BDC-COMM.exe but the only thing I found to download (after a long time searching ti.com) was bdc-comm-92.exe

Down load the 2012 BDC com program. The 2012 jaguar firmware. Currently version 101. This will be a zip file. Unzip it. The 2012 getting started guide. The Jaguar getting started guide. Particularly how the serial cable adapter needs to be wired. These explains what needs to be done far better than I can.
As far as I am aware, everything is connected completely. On the Jag getting started guide it says when bdc-comm is open the jag should be solid yellow (which it is not). It says to then check connections (which i have multiple times) and then possibly change com port. when I try to change the com port in bdc comm (by clicking on it), it just gets highlighted and no option to change appears.
TL:DR the guide says to change com port, but I cannot change it from one
Have you guys made sure that 1) the pins in the Jaguar port are contacting the CAN cable and 2) you have a terminator plug in the CAN?
Assuming you are using the adapter that comes is the kit of parts…
It need to be wired per the getting started guide. Just plugging the wires in logical holes will not work. Do not forget the resistor although that has nothing to do with the RS-232 side of things. Make sure you are using a straight wired 6 wire cable. A lot of the premade canbus cables are 4 wire which will not work for the cable to the computer or CRIO. Try Ohming out the cable be sure everything is wired right.
If you only have one com port on your computer, the BCD will only have that for an option.
If you are running win7 64 bit, try running in XP mode. It may not run in 64 bit.
The solid yellow LED means the Jag is getting a 0 speed command. A logical consequence of everything connected correctly.
