So Im trying to put a turbine assembly on a car to generate electricity when slowing down ie. braking. This hwould allow a gas car to recoup some electricity when braking. Is there a way through CAD to simulate the energy generated by a turbine in a certain wind speed? Could I test out different turbines with this? Im sure there is some program to do this but I could not find one.
I’m trying to imagine what you have in mind, and can’t do it…how about a sketch to help explain it?
It sounds like you’re trying to make a hybrid gas/electric car, the hard way.
I doubt anyone makes a CAD program that also does CFD (computational fluid dynamics).
A wind turbine is probably one of the least efficient ways to recover energy from vehicle speed. You might consider connecting the input of a generator to a rubber wheel that can be pressed against one of the drive wheels as a dynamic brake.
Dassault Systemes makes two CAD suites that allow for CFD.
If you have the full version of Solidworks (link), you can use the COSMOSFloWorks add-in to preform a flow analysis on a part you’ve made in solidworks. The other Dassault product available is CATIA (link) . CATIA requires the Fluent (link) plugin, but provided that you have both, CATIA can also preform CFD.
