USB Camera recommendations

Hey everyone!
We are exploring options for USB cameras…in the past we’ve used ps3eye cameras which give an incredible frame rate. We typically target ,60fps at 640x480.

Given our robot we need to get smaller. Does anyone have any USB camera recommendations? There seem to be a TON of USB camera modules on Amazon…but it’s tough to determine if one is good or not

Microsoft life cams are cheap and small w/ lots of 3d-printable mounts

They don’t have a defined focal length/sensor size though, so that may limit you based on calculations.

If you want small, you can’t beat a Pi Camera. They’re lower latency, higher framerate, and higher resolution to boot. With a Pi3, Pi Camera, and PhotonVision you can easily get 80+ FPS at 480P.

As for USB cameras, it’s really a crapshoot. You just have to look at the specs and hope they actually meet them.

This thread Best Wide-Angle Camera for Driver Vision? might be helpful.
Specifically we’ve been very happy with this fisheye usb camera. We have a 3d printed mount design we probably can share, although it’s not a hard part to design.

Second on the ELP USB camera mentioned in the post above. However, you may find a fisheye lens better for driver vision than for targeting. The same camera is available with different lenses. We like the ELP camera with the 2.1mm lens for targeting. It’s still wide-angle, but not fisheye. You can also buy other M12 lenses for these cameras. A 2.8mm lens might be better than the 2.1 in some cases. Beyond 2.8 is getting too narrow for FRC use.
